DILG BILIRAN HOLDS PRELIMINARY LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE REVIEW WORKSHOP AHEAD OF REVAMP 2026
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Biliran Provincial Office convened local government leaders and key stakeholders for the Preliminary Local Government Code Review Workshop on June 16, 2026, at the DILG Biliran Provincial Office Conference Hall Barangay Larrazabal, Naval, Biliran.
The activity served as a preparatory undertaking for the upcoming REVAMP 2026: Regional Dialogue and Policy Review Workshop on Local Government Code (LGC) Amendments, which aims to gather insights and recommendations from the Local Government Units (LGUs) to support the proposed revisions to the decades-old Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991.
The workshop was attended by Local Chief Executives from the province’s municipalities, who actively participated in discussions and shared insights and recommendations for the provisions of the Code, emerging governance challenges, and potential policy reforms needed to strengthen local autonomy and improve public service delivery.
During the workshop, participants shared their experiences in implementing the Local Government Code and identified provisions that may require updating to address evolving local governance concerns. The discussions also highlighted the importance of ensuring that proposed amendments reflect the realities and needs of local governments in the current time.
DILG Biliran emphasized that the review process provides an opportunity for LGUs to contribute to shaping policies that will further empower local governments and enhance their capacity to respond to the changing demands of governance and development.
The inputs gathered during the workshop will form part of Biliran Province’s recommendations to be presented during the REVAMP 2026 Regional Dialogue and Policy Review Workshop in the coming days, contributing to the nationwide effort to modernize the Local Government Code and make it more responsive to contemporary governance challenges.
