📢 DTI and LGU-Ormoc Successfully Conduct Consumer and Retailers Forum

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Consumer Protection Division, in cooperation with the Local Government Unit of Ormoc through the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) with the assistance of the Negosyo Center Ormoc, successfully conducted the Consumer and Retailers Forum at the Ormoc City Museum, bringing together consumers and retailers to promote awareness of consumer rights, responsibilities, and product quality and safety standards.

The morning session, the Consumers Forum, was attended by 35 participants, including barangay officials and representatives from various consumer associations. The activity commenced with a welcome address from Hon. Lalaine Marcos, Sangguniang Panlungsod Member and member of the Committee on Trade and Industry. The forum highlighted key topics on Consumer Rights, the Consumer Act of the Philippines, and Product Quality and Safety Provisions, presented by Ms. Ryajane Repalda, STIDS. The discussion emphasized the importance of informed consumer decision-making and the protection of consumer welfare.

In the afternoon, the Retailers Forum gathered 35 retailers representing various sectors in the community. Participants were warmly welcomed by Atty. Kimberly Cadayona, Officer-in-Charge of the BPLO. Also present during the activity was Mr. Victor Hugo, BPLO Chief Licensing Officer (CLO). The session featured a presentation on the Consumer Act of the Philippines and Product Quality and Safety Provisions delivered by Atty. Nathañael Dominguez, Officer-in-Charge of the DTI Ormoc Satellite Office. The discussion underscored the responsibilities of retailers in ensuring compliance with consumer protection laws and maintaining product quality and safety standards.

Through this initiative, DTI and the LGU-Ormoc reaffirm their commitment to fostering a fair, safe, and competitive marketplace by empowering both consumers and retailers with the knowledge necessary to uphold consumer welfare and responsible business practices.

ORMOC CITY - Highlights from the recently concluded “Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay Program” of OWWA in partnership with DTI. The Negosyo Center Ormoc successfully conducted an Entrepreneurial Development Training (EDT) for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are prospective beneficiaries of livelihood assistance grants for their respective proposed businesses.

The activity was held on May 6, 2026, at the Ormoc City Hall Administration Function Hall. This activity is regularly conducted every Wednesday to support distressed and repatriated OFWs through Entrepreneurial Development Training.
