I first met Cong. Jorge on a flight back to Ozamiz when I was still a student. He was warm and kind then, and every time our paths crossed over the years, he remained the same.

I am saddened by his passing.

Upon searching through my phone I realize this is the only photo I ever took with him.

Cong. Jorge spent much of his life serving Misamis Occidental—as a prosecutor, Oroquieta City vice mayor and mayor, and as representative of the first district.

He undoubtedly touched many lives through his years of public service.

Rest in peace, Cong. Jorge.

My deepest condolences to the Almonte family and the people of Misamis Occidental.

🎉𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦, University of Northwestern Mindanao (UNM) 🎉

A historic milestone has finally been achieved!

More than seven years after the enactment of Republic Act No. 11186—authored by then Congressman and now Governor Henry S. Oaminal —which converted the Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST) into a state university, the institution has successfully fulfilled all requirements for the full implementation of the law and has officially attained its University Status.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication, perseverance, and collective efforts of the school’s leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality.

The university’s elevation marks a new era for higher education in Misamis Occidental, expanding opportunities for academic excellence, research, innovation, and community development—not only within the province but also across neighboring areas.

Congratulations to the entire University of Northwestern Mindanao community! May this milestone inspire even greater achievements as you continue shaping future generations of leaders, professionals, and nation-builders!

Let us all be reminded that the Liberty that we enjoy today were secured through the blood, sweat and tears of the courageous Filipinos who fought for us.

May this be an instrument to strengthen our desire to protect our homeland and inspire solidarity and unity among all Filipinos.

Happy Day of Valor!

It was my honor to represent the House Committee on Higher Education at this morning’s special Board of Trustees meeting of the Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST) for the election of its next president.

Warmest congratulations to Dr. Reynaldo Manuel, Jr., former Schools Division Superintendent of Misamis Occidental, on being elected as the 4th President of NMSCST! 🎉

After two rigorous rounds of screening (involing several interviews), he emerged as the top-ranked candidate and earned the clear majority support of the Board—a testament to his leadership, experience, and vision for the institution.

As NMSCST moves closer to its long-awaited transition into a university, Dr. Manuel is poised to make history as its first university president. This milestone is in line with Section 9 of RA 11186, authored by then Congressman and now Governor Henry S. Oaminal, which provides that the incumbent college president shall serve as the first university president.

Exciting times ahead for NMSCST, Misamis Occidental, and the whole Northern Mindanao!

Let’s continue working together to strengthen higher education in our region. 💙 📚
