The Province of Misamis Occidental is endowed with fisheries and aquatic resources, covering 10 coastal municipalities and 3 coastal cities, with 3 highland municipalities with abundant freshwater fishpond resources. Priority responsibility of the Provincial Fisheries Office to cater to the needs of the fishing constituents, with the joint coordination of the Local Government Units, programs for l

ivelihood sustenance, resource management rehabilitation, and enhancement was brought in hand to the fishing communities. Vis a vis implementation of the fisheries laws and regulations governing the protection, rehabilitation, and enhancement of the resources was the mandatory obligation. Thus, for the continuing support of the programs and projects of BFAR, primary objectives were focused on the joint and strengthened coordination of LGUs for proper implementation of the programs and projects. GENERAL INFORMATION

There are 11 coastal municipalities and 3 cities with 169.9 kilometers of coastline; with three highland municipalities which have abundant freshwater fishpond resources. They are the rich fishing grounds and vast breeding grounds, habitat, and sanctuary for some commercially important terrestrial/aquatic organisms and aquamarine resources. The province boasts off its long coastline where one of the country’s shrimp spawning grounds is located. Aside from shrimps, Misamis Occidental also offers other aquamarine resources such as shellfishes, prawns, and crabs which will eventually pave the way to become the aquamarine center of the Philippines. It is endowed with fisheries and aquatic resources covering 85 coastal barangays with 103 barangays with inland waters all throughout the province.

This training program aims to equip trainers
Fisheries Extension Workers in Misamis Occidental with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively assess fish stocks,identify species,fishing gears familiarization and reporting of data. Participants learned methodologies, data collection techniques, and best practices in fish stock assessment.

Furthermore,this training also aims to standardize data collection to establish time series and biological data for science-based fisheries management, plans,and strategies.

The said activity was conducted on October 3-4,2024 at the Auditorium ,Plaridel Misamis Occidental.

BFAR 10, through the Provincial Fisheries Office of Misamis Occidental, successfully conducted a "𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴" for fishery-based MSMEs in Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental, from July 10-11, 2024. This initiative aims to enhance financial literacy and management skills among the fisherfolk.

Participants engaged in "𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵 & 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻," an interactive game designed to teach key financial management skills. Through this fun and insightful activity, MSMEs learned the importance of investments and sound business practices.
