On August 26, 2026, the National Meat Inspection Service โ Regional Technical Operations Center IX (NMIS RTOC IX) first conducted a courtesy call with the City Mayor before proceeding with the Technical Assistance and Site Inspection for the proposed Poultry Dressing Plant of Mega Chicken Poultry Farm, located at Barangay Cabobo, Lamitan City, Basilan.
The activity was conducted to assess the proposed site and provide technical guidance to the proponent regarding the planning, design, construction, and operational requirements of a poultry dressing plant in accordance with applicable NMIS standards and meat safety and sanitation requirements. During the site inspection, the team evaluated the suitability of the proposed location, site accessibility, available space, surrounding environment, drainage and wastewater considerations, water supply, electrical requirements, and other relevant site conditions that may affect the establishment and future operation of the facility. The team also provided technical assistance on the appropriate plant layout and workflow, emphasizing the proper segregation of clean and dirty areas, orderly movement of poultry products and personnel, prevention of cross-contamination, sanitation facilities, equipment placement, waste management, and other hygienic design considerations. The proponent was advised to ensure that the proposed facility and its supporting structures are designed in accordance with applicable requirements prior to the commencement of construction. The inspection also served as an opportunity to discuss the necessary documents, plans, and technical requirements that need to be prepared and submitted for the proposed establishment.
NMIS RTOC IX provided recommendations and guidance to assist the proponent in improving the proposed design and ensuring that the facility will be capable of producing safe, wholesome, and properly handled poultry products. The activity forms part of the continuing technical assistance of NMIS RTOC IX to stakeholders and prospective meat establishments in the region, particularly in promoting compliance with meat inspection, food safety, sanitation, and good manufacturing practices. The recommendations and observations gathered during the site inspection will serve as reference for the proponent in the succeeding stages of the proposed Poultry Dressing Plant project.
