DOST Zamboanga Peninsula Holds 3rd Quarter GFPS Assembly

The Department of Science and Technology – Zamboanga Peninsula conducted its 3rd Quarter Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) Assembly, focusing on the actual preparation and input of proposals for the GAD Plan and Budget (GPB) 2027.

The activity provided GFPS members an opportunity to review, discuss, and prepare proposed GAD activities and interventions for 2027, ensuring alignment with identified gender-related concerns and the agency’s programs and priorities.

During the assembly, participants worked together in preparing the proposed GAD Plan and Budget for FY 2027, applying the knowledge and tools gained from the recently conducted GPB Training-Workshop to actual planning outputs.

The activity strengthened the agency’s efforts to integrate gender-responsive planning and budgeting into its programs and activities and ensure that GAD considerations are incorporated into its plans for 2027.

DOST Zamboanga Peninsula Completes GPB Training-Workshop

The Department of Science and Technology – Zamboanga Peninsula successfully concluded the GPB Training-Workshop on Sex-Disaggregated Data, GAD Database, Gender Analysis, Planning and Budgeting on August 25-26, 2026, in Zamboanga City.

The two-day training-workshop strengthened participants’ understanding of gender analysis, sex-disaggregated data, GAD database management, and gender-responsive planning and budgeting, providing practical knowledge that can be applied to DOST programs and activities.

On the second day, participants engaged in hands-on workshops and group activities, applying the concepts and tools discussed during the training. They also worked on the development of the GAD Plan and Budget (GPB) for FY 2027, translating their learnings into actual planning and budgeting outputs.

The activity concluded with the consolidation of participants’ outputs and key takeaways, reinforcing the importance of integrating gender-responsive approaches in the planning and implementation of DOST programs and initiatives.

DOST Zamboanga Peninsula extends its appreciation to Atty. John Vincent G. Estrella, resource speaker for Day 1, and Atty. Katrina Q. Acana, resource speaker for Day 2, for sharing their expertise and providing valuable guidance throughout the training-workshop. Appreciation is also extended to all participants for their active engagement and contributions to the activities.

Through the training-workshop, DOST personnel strengthened their capacity to support more responsive, inclusive, and gender-responsive programs and services.

The Department of Science and Technology – Zamboanga Peninsula is currently conducting the GPB Training-Workshop on Sex-Disaggregated Data, GAD Database, Gender Analysis, Planning and Budgeting at Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City.

The activity was welcomed by Jali J. Badiola, GFPS Executive Committee Co-Chairperson, who highlighted the importance of strengthening the participants’ understanding and application of gender-responsive planning and budgeting in DOST programs and activities.

For Day 1, Atty. John Vincent G. Estrella, State Auditor III of the Commission on Audit Regional Office IX, is serving as the resource person. He is currently discussing the Foundation to Gender Analysis, focusing on Sex-Disaggregated Data and GAD Database: Collection, Analysis, and Utilization.

The afternoon sessions will continue with Gender Analysis Tools and Methodologies, followed by a hands-on workshop on conducting gender analysis using selected DOST programs.

Through this training-workshop, DOST personnel are gaining practical knowledge that can be applied in strengthening gender-responsive planning and budgeting within the organization.

DOST through its Gender and Development Unit (GADU), successfully conducted the 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 – 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘀-𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 on August 12–14, 2026, at the 5F Cattleya Hall, D’Hotel and Suites, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.
The three-day capacity-building brought together participants from DOST offices and attached agencies in the Visayas and Mindanao Clusters to strengthen their understanding and practical application of the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG). The workshop is designed to capacitate DOST personnel to move beyond compliance toward programs and projects that create meaningful impact. The event formed part of the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗫 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 (𝗥𝗦𝗧𝗪) led by Regional Director 𝗠𝘀. 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗦. 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿 who warmly welcomed the training participants in Zamboanga.
The training featured insightful sessions and workshops facilitated by 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗙𝗲 𝗕. 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗼𝗻, Project Senior Technical Specialist and member of the PCW-NGRP Batch 1, and 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗘𝗻𝗿𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗠𝘆𝗿𝗲𝗹 𝗠. 𝗦𝗶𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻, GAD Coordinator of DOST Region VII and member of PCW-NGRP Batch 8. Their discussions and hands-on activities guided participants in applying the HGDG to actual project development and design. Through discussions and hands-on workshops, participants explored how to integrate GAD principles into project design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
The training provided participants opportunities to share their outputs, insights, and key takeaways, culminating in a Ways Forward session and the awarding of certificates. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗟. 𝗜𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼, Assistant Secretary for Administrative and Legal Affairs, In Charge of GADU and DOST-wide GAD Focal Person, encouraged participants to strengthen their GAD mainstreaming efforts through attribution of gender-responsive programs offered by the Department and “Go for Gold” in the next GADtimpala Awards. The successful conduct of the training was made possible through her leadership and support, whose continued commitment to advancing gender mainstreaming across the DOST System strengthens the capacity of offices and attached agencies to develop more inclusive and impactful programs and projects more than mere statutory compliance. Together, DOST continues its commitment to Go for the Gold —not only in recognition, but in providing solutions and opening opportunities for all through a gender-responsive science, technology, and innovation or Agham na Ramdam. 💜✨
