Bangsa leads relentless assault, lifts Isabela past Zamboanga to bag ZPRAA 2026 Secondary Volleyball Boys title
By Nurhadi A. Muhajir

ISABELA CITY, Basilan — Mohammad Atan Bangsa displayed a masterclass performance after accounting 37 huge attacks as Isabela City ended their 14-year title drought, outpowering Zamboanga City, 3-1 during the ZPRAA 2026 Secondary Boys Volleyball championship match at Basilan State College Gymnasium earlier this afternoon, April 10.

Bangsa imposed his will from start to finish, delivering in high-pressure moments for Isabela and fracturing Zamboanga’s defensive structure with continuous, high efficiency attacks across all four sets, 28-26, 25-23, 17-25, 25-18, to secure the gold medal.

“This is because of my coach and sa trainer naminn na always sumusuporta samin every game,” Bangsa said. “Of course i’m happy na finally nakagold na kami and makaka palarong pambansa na kami,” he added.

The match kicked off with both teams firmly standing their ground as they traded points unflinchingly. However, Isabela held their nerves as they survived a fierce exchange of long rallies before Bangsa hammered a clutch kill to steal the extended opening frame, 28-26.

Riding his rhythm, Bangsa erupted for five straight attacks in second set, turning a tight battle to a 19-13 separation.
Zamboanga mounted a 4-0 run to close in at 24-22, but Bangsa shut down the rally with another decisive hit to secure the 2-0 advantage, 25-23.

Facing elimination, Zamboanga retaliated in the third set, unloading 6-0 opening run before overwhelming Isabela with an 11-2 finishing surge to force a fourth set. Nevertheless, Bangsa quickly reestablished control in the fourth set, anchoring an explosive 11-2 run on their own that gave Isabela a commanding 24-15 lead. Bangsa then blasted back-to-back finishing kills, sealing the 25-18 victory in the set 4, completing his offensive takeover in the championship match.

After the game, Bangsa was named as the best outside hitter and the Most Valuable Player of the Secondary Boys Volleyball in the Zamboanga Peninsula after tallying 37 attacks. Despite valiant effort, Jerald Reponte tried his best as he registered 9 attacks with 4 serves and a block, showing up when Zamboanga needed a point.

With this victory, Isabela City captured the ZPRAA 2026 Secondary Boys Volleyball crown as they advances to the Palarong Pambansa 2026, completing a long-awaited return to the top.

Don’t Stop the Music, Don’t Stop the Gold: Zamboanga City Steals the Show
By Aaliyah Yejana S. Majid

ISABELA CITY, Basilan (April 9, 2026) — Bret Marcial and Athea Conte turned the Isabela City Gymnasium into their own victory lane, clinching gold in the Samba, Cha-cha-cha, Rhumba, Paso Doble, and Jive, and above all the Grade A ( 5 dances).

The music had barely faded at the Isabela City Gymnasium when the verdict became clear: Zamboanga City owned the floor. Secondary dancers Bret Marcial and Athea Conte didn’t just compete in the ZPRAA 2026 Dancesport event—they commanded it, sweeping five individual gold medals and the overall Grade A trophy, outclassing the field to secure their spot in the national games.

For the pair, this victory is a golden ticket to the national stage. "Masaya po ako kasi nanalo ako bilang gold medalist," Marcial said, his eyes already set on his first Palarong Pambansa. "Gagawin ko ang best ko para sa Region IX."

Conte echoed that determination, viewing the win as fuel for the journey ahead. "We were really happy, 'yun po 'yung nasa isip namin," she shared. "Masaya at kailangang mag-work even harder. We will do our very best sa Palarong Pambansa para po maiangat ang ating region."

The dancer's mastery is anchored in the "now or never" philosophy of Coach Cedrick Tinapunan. For Tinapunan, success on the floor requires a mindset that treats every routine as a final call. "Every dance dapat bigay-todo, enjoy lang," he emphasized. "Parang last performance na ng buhay niyo, na parang wala nang bukas. It’s now or never." This mindset ensures his athletes leave everything on the floor.

As the duo transitions from the ZPRAA to the Palarong Pambansa, they carry the momentum of a perfect sway. Zamboanga City's Marcial and Conte didn't just chase points—they danced as if there was no tomorrow.

Sibugay’s Golden Grit: Alabata Edges Out Peñaflor in Epic Tie-Break Thriller
By Jericho J. Ong

ISABELA CITY, Basilan (April 9, 2026) — The tension at the ZPRAA 2026 Secondary Girls Lawn Tennis championship was palpable as the sun beat down on the court, mirroring the heated rivalry between Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur. Duha Princess Alabata and Larah Avarielle Peñaflor stepped onto the baseline not just as athletes, but as titans representing their respective delegations in a quest for regional supremacy. From the first serve, it was evident that neither side was willing to give an inch, as the match quickly transformed into a grueling baseline battle that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats.

The set was a masterclass in tactical tennis, with Peñaflor’s precision hitting constantly testing Alabata’s legendary court coverage. Every time one player seemed to pull away, the other
would dig deep, finding the lines with powerful winners or forcing errors through sheer persistence. The momentum swung back and forth like a pendulum until the scoreboard
flashed a deadlocked 5-5. With the crowd holding its breath and the gold medal hanging in the balance, the match pushed into a high-stakes tie-break to determine the ultimate victor.

In the tie-break, the atmosphere reached a fever pitch, but it was Alabata who found her "second wind." While Peñaflor fought valiantly to stay in the hunt, the intensity of the moment
seemed to favor the Sibugay powerhouse. Alabata’s composure was unwavering as she rattled off point after point, neutralizing her opponent’s strategy with clinical ex*****on. Peñaflor managed to secure only a single point in the tie-breaker as Alabata surged ahead, closing out the match with a final, decisive strike.

The 6-5 victory sparked an immediate celebration for the Zamboanga Sibugay camp, as Duha Princess Alabata officially claimed the gold medal. It was a victory defined by mental fortitude and the ability to perform under the heaviest pressure. Though Peñaflor and Zamboanga del Sur walked away with a hard-fought silver, the day belonged to Alabata, whose late-game heroics ensured that the top prize would be heading home to Sibugay.
