1BCT Commander Joins Katihan Steel Challenge Funshoot 2026, Showcasing Marksmanship and Camaraderie

In celebration of the Philippine Army’s 129th Founding Anniversary, Brigadier General Von Albert M Sumergido PA, Commander of the 1st Brigade Combat Team (1BCT), participated in the annual Katihan Steel Challenge Funshoot 2026 held at the Philippine Army Firing Range, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, on 21 March 2026.

The competition gathered commanders and personnel from various Philippine Army units, providing a venue to test their marksmanship, discipline, and teamwork in a dynamic and competitive environment. The participation of senior leaders, including the 1BCT Commander, highlighted the importance of maintaining combat proficiency and leading by example.

Held as part of the 129th Anniversary celebration of the Philippine Army, the event showcased the Army’s enduring excellence in marksmanship, discipline, and teamwork. More than a competition, the funshoot strengthened camaraderie among units and sharpened the skills that support mission readiness across the Philippine Army.

The awarding ceremony was led by Lieutenant General Antonio G. Nafarrete, Commanding General of the Philippine Army, who commended the participants for their outstanding performance.
The Katihan Steel Challenge Funshoot continues to serve as an important platform for fostering camaraderie among units while enhancing operational readiness and precision among Army personnel.

The event also reinforces the Philippine Army’s commitment to excellence, professionalism, and sustained capability development in support of its mission.
