“Strengthening Minds, Sustaining Readiness: 9FAB Personnel Participate in Mental Health Lecture”

Personnel of the 9th Field Artillery Battalion gathered at Maharlika Hall, Artillery Regiment, Philippine Army, for a mental health lecture to strengthen the well-being of military service members.

The activity was led by 1LT LIEBERT C BALLESTEROS (ART) PA, Battery Commander of Charlie Battery, who emphasized the critical importance of addressing mental health within the military community.

Brother Erwin Baguio, Discipleship Administrator of Victory Church Cabanatuan, served as the resource speaker. His presentation explored the complex nature of mental health challenges faced by service members, while also examining the "anatomy of loneliness"—breaking down its psychological, emotional, and social aspects, and how these can appear differently in military settings. Key points included recognizing warning signs in oneself and others, differentiating between healthy solitude and harmful isolation, and taking practical steps to promote connection and emotional resilience.

The lecture discussed how stress affects performance and relationships, emphasized the importance of seeking help without stigma, and provided practical strategies for maintaining mental resilience.

Brother Baguio stated that personnel face unique challenges in their line of duty, and taking care of their mental well-being is crucial for maintaining operational readiness and fostering a supportive unit environment.

During the session, participants engaged in open discussions, sharing experiences and asking questions about navigating personal and professional challenges. The event also highlighted support systems and local communities that service members can access for mental health assistance.

The activity concluded with a commitment from unit leadership to continue organizing similar initiatives to prioritize the holistic health of all battalion personnel.

Philippine and US Artillery Forces Conduct Joint Cross-Training to Strengthen Battery Capabilities
The Alpha Battery of the 9th Field Artillery “Firestorm” Battalion, led by 1LT AMADEO JOHN C BRUAN (ART) PA, Alpha Battery Commander, in partnership with the United States Army’s 6th Security Field Artillery Battalion (6SFAB). Led by Captain Lucas Weiland, the training focused on three Key areas: Battery Operations, Offense and Defense Operations, and Decentralized Fire Missions to elevate the tactical and operational capabilities of the Philippine Artillery unit.
The full-day training, held at the Artillery Regiment Headquarters, delivered in-depth theoretical instruction tailored to address modern artillery challenges.

Battery Operations covered command and control structures, communication workflows, supply chain management, and safety protocols essential for seamless unit coordination. Explored strategies for artillery support in offensive maneuvers, including pre-assault fire preparation and defensive applications. Empowering smaller artillery elements to make independent, timely decisions during missions where centralized command may be constrained by terrain or operational demands.

Capt. Lucas Weiland highlighted the value of collaborative learning: “This exchange combines the Philippine Army’s extensive operational experience with US Army frameworks for integrated artillery operations. Together, we’re building capabilities that support both nations’ security goals."

Personnel from Alpha Battery actively engaged in discussions, exploring how to adapt the taught concepts to local operational environments. The activity also included exchanges on integrating modern data systems and target acquisition tools to improve fire accuracy and mission efficiency.
The activity is part of the long-standing defense cooperation between the Philippines and the United States, focused on capacity building and interoperability.

During their deployment, the “Firestorm” Battalion carried out a variety of roles.
