Let's take a look back to our four Visayas Finalists proceeding to the national finals. Representing Transportation & Logistics, Blue Economy & Water, and Food & Agribusiness priority areas, our finalists are bringing Visayan innovation at the forefront of Philippine Innovation. Following their selection, DRO VIII, serving as our Visayas Sub-National Secretariat, sat down with them to hear the stories behind their innovations, their journey through the competition, and the people they hope to impact. 🚀

Unahin natin ang Draft Master Maritime Services! ⚓ Under the Transportation & Logistics priority area, the Survey Reader Kit and Swell Stabilizer Tube make maritime draft surveys safer, faster, and more accurate. Its specialized tools allow seafarers and surveyors to measure vessel cargo weight while reducing the need for risky positioning near the waterline.

Kaligtasan ng mga marino ang puso ng inobasyong ito. For Founder Capt. Stanley Jan Diopita, the pandemic further strengthened their drive to innovate for the safety of those working at sea. Layunin nilang maihatid ang benepisyong ito hindi lamang sa mga Pilipinong marino at surveyor, kundi maging sa maritime community sa buong mundo. 🌏⚓

Measles and Rubella are serious but preventable diseases. This August, parents and guardians are encouraged to have their children aged 6 to 59 months vaccinated for FREE at designated vaccination sites in their respective LGUs.

Eligible children will also receive Vitamin A supplementation for added protection against severe illness and Vitamin A deficiency.

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) VIII conducted a series of interactive learning activities in observance of the 2026 National Disaster Resilience Month.

Held from 27 to 31 July 2026, the activities included rehabilitation and recovery trivia, online quizzes, and the Hotel Resilience Game. These deepened participants’ understanding of disaster rehabilitation and recovery, resilience investments, and the ‘Build Back Better’ principle while highlighting the importance of integrating disaster risk considerations into development planning.

As Vice-Chair of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) VIII - Rehabilitation and Recovery Pillar, DEPDev VIII remains committed to advancing inclusive and sustainable recovery in Eastern Visayas.

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) VIII strengthened its capacity in climate risk insurance through training under the Strengthening Disaster Resilience and Risk Mitigation through Ecosystem-based Planning and Adaptation (E4DR) Project of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The training brought together government agencies, local government units, and people’s organizations from the project’s pilot sites. Participants explored parametric insurance as an innovative risk-transfer mechanism for protecting and restoring climate-vulnerable ecosystems, with mangroves identified as the project’s priority ecological asset.

Through the E4DR Project, DEPDev VIII continues to advance ecosystem-based adaptation, innovative financing, and risk-informed development planning toward safer and more climate-resilient communities in Eastern Visayas.
