The Department of Trade and Industry - Eastern Samar Provincial Office under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) in coordination with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and LGU Borongan City, successfully conducted the Basic Skills Training on Cacao Processing with EDT on Costing, Pricing, and ROI Computation last March 15-16, 2022 at Brgy. Calico-an, Borongan City, Eastern Samar. Twenty (20) participants from the Borongan Cacao Producers and Processors Association (BCPPA) were trained in making pure cacao tablea.

This 2-day training was composed of a detailed lecture on cacao production technology which was discussed by Antonio Torres, Jr., a cacao technician; and Aniano L. Manlapas, Jr., Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (STIDS-CARP), tackled the basics of cacao tablea with actual demonstration, ex*****on and discussions on the Entrepreneurial Development (Costing, Pricing, and ROI Computation), wherein participants were able to know how to come up with a Suggested Retail Price of their product; and action planning which was facilitated by OIC-MARPO Luzviminda M. Maxino of DARMO-Borongan City. Training equipment, utensils, and materials have been given to the association by DTI-CARP for them to utilize in making their new product line – tablea. Product critiquing was also conducted by all stakeholders.

The activity aims to establish a cacao processing industry in the city; to impart the new technology on cacao processing to participants with the minimum protocol in new normal; to provide alternative source of income for farmer beneficiaries and their families; to help beneficiaries come up with a new product line; and to encourage the farmers to be an entrepreneur.

DTI-CARP conducted a Basic Skills Training on Bamboo Processing with Entrepreneurial Development Training at Quinapondan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Bamboo Weavers Association (QARBBWA) in Municipality of Quinapondan, Eastern Samar. The association members were also given additional tools and materials for bamboo processing and were able to develop new bamboo weaved products such as plant pot holders, “bilao”, and lamp shades.

The Department of Trade and Industry under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (DTI-CARP) of Eastern Samar Provincial Office in coordination with the Department of Agrarian Reform and LGU Quinapondan conducted a 2-day Upgrading Training on Bamboo Processing last February 23-24, 2021 at Brgy. Sta. Margarita, Quinapondan, Eastern Samar. Fourteen (14) officers and members of Quinapondan Agrarian Reform beneficiaries actively participated the activity.
The objectives of the said training were: (1) to impart techniques, current trends, and new technology (treatment procedures) in bamboo processing while observing the minimum protocol in new normal; (2) to provide alternative source of income for farmer beneficiaries and their family while protecting the environment; and (3) to help beneficiaries in creating quality bamboo products that can compete with the current market trends.
