📙 💚 BAWAT BATA, BUMABASA
A Literacy Movement of Barangay Canhidoc
What if the child who is struggling to read today is simply waiting for someone to believe in him or her?
This question became more than a thought. it became a call to action.
After attending the National Congress of the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas in Manila last June 28, 2026, where the Zero Illiteracy Campaign was highlighted, we came home with an important realization:
The fight against illiteracy cannot happen inside the classroom alone. It must begin in the home and be embraced by the entire community.
That is why the Barangay Government of Canhidoc is taking the first step toward building a community where every child is given the opportunity to read, learn, and succeed.
We will be working closely with our elementary school Canhidoc Elementary School, MSWDO, PNP, barangay officials, volunteers, and other partners to identify learners who are struggling with reading and, more importantly, understand the circumstances behind their difficulties.
Because we don't want to ask only:
"Why can't this child read?"
We want to ask:
"What does this child need from us?"
Perhaps the child needs more time.
Perhaps the family needs support.
Perhaps a parent needs to learn how to help their child read at home.
Perhaps the child simply needs someone to sit beside them and say: "Kaya nim ito bii, basa kita utro buwas."
This is why our initiative is called:
BAWAT BATA BUMABASA.
Because we believe that every child deserves a chance to read.
Every child deserves encouragement.
Every child deserves patience.
Every child deserves to be heard, understood and supported.
And no child should ever be defined by the fact that he/she is struggling today.
Our first major step will be our Symposium and Community Dialogue on Literacy this coming August 20, 2026, where we will bring together the school, parents, and our government partners to begin identifying the challenges and creating concrete interventions.
But this will not end with one symposium.
We envision Saturday reading sessions, parent involvement, community reading volunteers, home-based reading, reading corners, monitoring of learners, and partnership with individuals and organizations who are willing to help.
And soon, we will be calling on college students, young professionals, teachers, education advocates, and other compassionate volunteers who are willing to give even a few hours of their Saturdays to help a child learn to read.
Because sometimes, one hour of your time can become a turning point in a child's life.
To our parents: we need you.
To our teachers: we stand with you.
To our government partners: we invite you to talk with us.
To our volunteers and community members: we hope you will join us.
And to our children: we believe in you.
This is bigger than reading.
This is about confidence.
This is about opportunity.
This is about breaking barriers before they become lifelong obstacles.
And this is about making sure that when our children look back someday, they can say:
"There was a community who believed in me."
The Sangguniang Barangay ng Canhidoc believes that one of our greatest responsibilities is not simply building infrastructures, but to build people and protect the future of our community.
And there is no better place to begin than with our children.

🤝 Bawat isa sa atin ay may papel na gagampanan
🌱 Bawat bata, dapat bumabasa.
This is only the beginning.

Because when a child learns to read, we help open the door to a brighter future. 🚀
