๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐, ๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ข ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐๐ก๐ง๐๐ โ ATI Davao Region successfully conducted the Training on Native Chicken Production and Management in Barangay Baculin on May 12โ14, 2026.
The training aimed to enhance participants' knowledge and skills in native chicken production and management, providing an additional livelihood opportunity and a way to improve household income. It was attended by 32 members of the Baculin Coconut Farmers Association (BACFA).
Resource person Ms. Mary Ann M. Ambasan, Agricultural Technologist of the Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Office (MAGRO) of Baganga, Davao Oriental, facilitated discussions on various aspects of native chicken production. Her topics included the prospects of the poultry industry, the current status and inventory of poultry production in the Philippines, and the potential of native chicken farming as a sustainable enterprise.
She also covered essential production technologies and management practices, including native chicken breeds and their characteristics, anatomy and physiology, egg production and incubation systems, housing and farm management, feeds and feeding, health management practices, ethno-veterinary medicine, record-keeping systems, and the economic analysis of native chicken production projects.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jerry C. Carpentero, Planning Officer II of ATI Davao Region, conducted a session on the preparation of organic concoctions that can be utilized as vitamins and herbal remedies for native chickens.
Participants actively engaged in the hands-on preparation of the concoctions, allowing them to gain practical experience and strengthen their skills in promoting animal health using locally available and cost-effective resources.
The training forms part of ATI Davao Region's continuing efforts to support farmers through capacity-building initiatives that promote sustainable and profitable agricultural enterprises.
