The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Pandan successfully convened its 2nd Quarterly Meeting to strengthen the municipalityโs disaster preparedness and response initiatives, led by Mayor Engr. Tomas U. Estoperez Jr. together with members of the council and various partner agencies, May 28, 2026.
The meeting primarily focused on the municipalityโs Annual Investment Plan (AIP) for disaster preparedness, highlighting proactive measures aimed at enhancing the safety and resilience of communities in the face of natural calamities and emergencies.
During the discussion, Mayor Estoperez emphasized the importance of strengthening early warning mechanisms in the municipality. The mayor recommended the establishment of an advanced alarm system that could provide residents with alerts at least two to three hours before the possible occurrence of hazards such as typhoons, flooding, storm surges, and other emergencies. According to the mayor, timely warnings are crucial in ensuring that families are given enough time to prepare and evacuate when necessary.
Meanwhile, Mr. Arnold Demegillo, Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer II formally opened the meeting by informing the council about the approaching typhoon โDomeng,โ which is expected to potentially affect Pandan within the next three days. He also alerted the council regarding the southwest monsoon or โHabagat,โ which is currently affecting the municipalityโs 15 coastal barangays, prompting heightened monitoring and preparedness efforts.
The council also tackled the acquisition and enhancement of life-saving emergency equipment and disaster response resources. Discussions included the procurement and upgrading of rescue vehicles, emergency alarm systems, communication devices, rescue tools, and other essential equipment that will further strengthen the capability of responders to effectively perform rescue and emergency operations even during severe and challenging disaster situations.
The meeting reflects the continued commitment of the local government of Pandan under the leadership of Mayor Estoperez in prioritizing disaster preparedness, public safety, and the welfare of every Pandananon through strategic planning, coordination, and proactive action.
