Engaging and Inspiring Future Leaders

Marking an important milestone in their early naval formation, BRP Valentin Diaz (PS177) opened its decks to Batch ANA-SIGMUAN 25-26 of the 278th NROTC Unit, Navotas Polytechnic College for a Shipboard Tour on 19 December 2025. The activity aimed to introduce the midshipmen to the navy shipboard organization and capabilities, and more importantly, meet the valiant Officers and Crew of PS177.

For many of the visiting midshipmen, this tour served as their first close encounter with an operational naval vessel. They were oriented on the ship’s mission, capabilities, and organization, allowing them to better understand how the navy sailors perform their mandated tasks with their gears and equipment.

The activity emphasized the importance of familiarity with naval assets and platforms, as future leaders are expected not only to lead personnel but also to employ and protect the Navy’s capabilities effectively. The tour also highlighted the values that define naval leadership—discipline, teamwork, accountability, and service before self, the basic principles that midshipmen are called to develop early in their training.

Through such engagements, BRP Valentin Diaz (PS177) reaffirms its role in shaping and inspiring young Filipinos at the start of their naval journey. By exposing them to life at sea and the realities of service, the ship helps instill purpose, confidence, and motivation—laying a strong foundation for the future leaders who will one day safeguard the nation’s maritime domain.

To the Batch ANA- SIGMUAN, 278th NROTC unit;
From the classroom to the quarterdeck—this is where your naval journey begins!!

Proficient Gunners and Accurate Guns of Alvarez Class Patrol Vessels in WPS

BRP Valentin Diaz (PS177) and BRP Ladislao Diwa (PS178) have successfully conducted their joint live test firing exercise of naval guns at the vicinity of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan last August 24, 2025.
This joint training not only focused on the gunnery exercise, but included the ex*****on of publication exercise and maneuvering exercises. After which, the event proceeded to the live test firing of primary naval guns: the 25MM MGS Mk38 Mod 2; and secondary guns, the Cal .50 HMG M2; and 7.62 MM M240B LMG. The exercise showcased the accuracy, reliability, and firepower of naval guns of the two (2) Alvarez Class Patrol Vessels(ACPV) of the Littoral Combat Force (LCF).
The exercise culminated with the successful simulation of the Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) wherein navy seals from NAVSOU-4 onboard their 11-meter RHIBs were launched from the two ACPVs, and were successfully recovered after completion of the scenario. This exercise is a great leap in the conduct of regular training ofPhilippine Fleet’s littoral combat vessels deployed in the area of operations in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
This type of naval exercise reaffirms the assurance of Philippine Navy’s commitment to maintaining a credible naval defense posture. The results demonstrated not only the system’s effectiveness but also the crew’s growing expertise in handling modern machine gun systems. It forms part of a broader capability development program aimed at enhancing the Philippine Navy’s deterrence capabilities and readiness to protect the nation’s territorial waters.
The successful joint live test firing of PS177 and PS178 not only strengthens confidence in the Western Naval Command’s (WNC) defense assets but also underscores the importance of continuous training, modernization, and investment in maritime security.
