In line with the Department of Education’s commitment to ensuring school safety and disaster preparedness, Bacarri ES conducted an earthquake drill on September 11, 2025, at exactly 9:00 in the morning. The activity aimed to strengthen awareness, readiness, and the proper ex*****on of safety measures in case of an actual earthquake.
The drill began with the ringing of the school bell, signaling the start of the “duck, cover, and hold” procedure. Learners, teachers, non-teaching staff, and parents who were present actively participated by immediately taking cover under desks and sturdy furniture. After one minute, they were instructed to carefully evacuate the classrooms and proceed to the designated evacuation area in an orderly manner.
The teaching and non-teaching staff, together with parent volunteers, guided the pupils during the evacuation process to ensure safety and discipline. Learners assembled at the open ground where attendance and headcount were conducted to confirm that everyone was safe and accounted for.
The drill concluded with a short debriefing session led by Ma’am Jeralyn Cobsilan, School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Coordinator, Reinl Balingcado (Parent Representative) and Ma’am Vilma Wandagan (Teacher Representative). Emphasis was placed on the importance of presence of mind, discipline, and cooperation during emergencies. Feedback from the participants highlighted the effectiveness of the drill and their increased confidence in responding to an earthquake scenario.
The active participation of learners, parents, teaching, and non-teaching personnel greatly contributed to the success of the activity. The school remains committed to promoting a culture of preparedness and resilience in the community.
