Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9482, the month of March is declared as Rabies Awareness Month in the Philippines. This annual observance aims to raise public awareness on rabies prevention and control, and to promote responsible pet ownership.
Rabies remains a serious public health concern ir the country, claiming approximately 200 to 300 lives each year.
Despite being 100% preventable, rabies continues to pose a threat due to lack of awareness, failure to vaccinate pets, and delayed medical treatment after animal bites.
This Rabies Awareness Month, let us all take part in protecting our families and communities by:
💉Ensuring that dogs and cats are vaccinated against rabies annually
💉Practicing responsible pet ownership
💉 Avoiding contact with stray or unfamiliar animals
💉Immediately washing bite wounds with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes and seeking medical attention without delay
💉Supporting local anti-rabies vaccination programs
