LOOK | Conduct of Basic Life Support (BLS) Training

The Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM successfully conducted a Basic Life Support (BLS) Training at Headquarters, Polloc Freeport Ecozone, Parang, Maguindanao, participated in by personnel from various OPCON units.

The activity aimed to equip Coast Guard personnel with essential life-saving skills in responding to medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, choking, and respiratory distress. The training included lectures and demonstrations on proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management, and the use of automated external defibrillators (AED).

Through this initiative, participants were able to enhance their knowledge, build confidence, and develop competence in delivering immediate and effective first response care prior to the arrival of advanced medical support.

The Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM remains committed to strengthening the operational readiness and medical responsiveness of all personnel by continuously conducting capacity-building activities that promote safety, preparedness, and preservation of life.

LOOK | Ramadhan Kareem: “Spreading Compassion Through Free Iftar”

In the spirit of generosity and unity during the holy month of Ramadan, the Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM successfully conducted a Free Iftar Activity with the theme “Ramadhan Kareem: Spreading Compassion Through Free Iftar.” The activity aimed to share blessings and promote compassion within the community.

The meaningful initiative was led by LTJG ALFAHDZLY J ABIDIN PCG, Chief Nurse of the Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM, in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary. This humanitarian effort was initiated through the support and leadership of CAPT ALIMUDIN K TUNGAN PCGA, DAD, CDR BERNARD R SERO PCGA, DAS, and LCDR BAI SITTIE G PAGAYAO PCGA, together with other dedicated personnel of Coast Guard District BARMM.

The activity was conducted under the leadership and guidance of COMMO REJARD V MARFE PCG, District Commander of Coast Guard District BARMM.

The activity was successfully held at Polloc Freeport Ecozone, Parang, Maguindanao, where personnel and members of the community gathered to share the evening meal for Iftar. The event symbolized unity, compassion, and the shared commitment of the Philippine Coast Guard and its Auxiliary to serve not only in maritime safety but also in community outreach and humanitarian service.

Through this initiative, the Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM reaffirmed its dedication to fostering goodwill, strengthening community ties, and promoting the true spirit of Ramadan generosity, compassion, and service to others.

LOOK | Official Turnover of Medicines and Medical Supplies

The Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM successfully received two (2) boxes of assorted medicines and medical supplies from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) Maguindanao during a simple turnover ceremony held at Headquarter Coast Guard District BARMM Polloc Freeport Ecozone, Parang, Maguindanao.

The donation was spearheaded by CDR BERNARD R SERO PCGA, District Auxiliary Supervisor (DAS), as part of the continued commitment to strengthen health service capabilities and medical readiness in support of Coast Guard personnel and the community.

The donated items were formally received by CAPT DANISH M RUIZ PCG, Deputy Commander of Coast Guard District BARMM. The activity was conducted under the leadership and guidance of Commodore REJARD V MARFE PCG, District Commander of Coast Guard District BARMM.

The Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM, headed by ENS ALFAHDZLY J ABIDIN PCG Chief Nurse, together with ENS MALIKA M ABLERA PCG General Duty Nurse, conducted a formal courtesy call to LCDR JHON PAUL E CABARUBIAS PCG, Station commander Maguindanao, in line with the upcoming conduct of Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for station personnel.

The visit aimed to formally coordinate and strengthen collaboration between the Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM and Station Maguindanao in promoting lifesaving competencies among Coast Guard personnel. During the meeting, key matters were discussed including the training schedule, objectives, target participants, and logistical requirements to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the activity.

The BLS training is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and confidence of personnel in responding effectively to life-threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest, choking incidents, and respiratory failure. The Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM, in collaboration with the 1601st Squadron BARMM and the Coast Guard Chaplain Service, successfully conducted a Janazah (Islamic Post-Mortem Care) Training as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen culturally competent, faith-sensitive, and humane care within the service.

This activity was conducted under the continuing guidance and full support of Commodore REJARD V MARFE PCG, Acting Commander, Coast Guard District BARMM, and under the continuing supervision of Commodore LYSAMAYRA MARIE N GAVAN PCG, Chief Nurse, Philippine Coast Guard.

The training aimed to equip Coast Guard personnel with the proper knowledge and practical skills in the respectful handling, preparation, and management of deceased Muslim individuals in accordance with Islamic rites and traditions. This initiative is especially vital in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), where cultural and religious sensitivity is essential in the delivery of effective humanitarian and medical services.

A key agenda of the discussion was the proposed conduct of Post-Mortem Care Training in accordance with Islamic Janazah rites, aimed at strengthening the knowledge and competencies of Coast Guard personnel—particularly medical and nursing personnel—in the proper, dignified, and Shari’ah-compliant handling of the deceased.
