LOOK: A courtesy call and coordination meeting was conducted by CDR TUNGAN KANAPIA ALIMUDIN PCGA, with the Chief Nurse, Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM, ENS ALFAHDZLY J ABIDIN PCG, to discuss the proposed conduct of health-related training activities intended to enhance the capabilities and preparedness of all Coast Guard personnel in Coast Guard District BARMM, with due consideration for religious and cultural contexts, in support of culturally and faith-sensitive healthcare service delivery in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
A key agenda of the discussion was the proposed conduct of Post-Mortem Care Training in accordance with Islamic Janazah rites, aimed at strengthening the knowledge and competencies of Coast Guard personnel—particularly medical and nursing personnel—in the proper, dignified, and Shari’ah-compliant handling of the deceased. The training emphasizes adherence to Islamic principles such as taharah (cleanliness), preservation of human dignity, modesty, and timely burial, while ensuring observance of applicable medical, legal, and public health protocols.
The initiative underscores the importance of integrating healthcare delivery with Islamic values, recognizing that spiritual and cultural considerations are essential components of holistic and compassionate care, especially within Muslim communities. Through this training, Coast Guard personnel will be better equipped to render faith-sensitive and culturally appropriate services during death-related incidents, emergencies, and humanitarian operations.
The proposed activity is particularly significant in the BARMM region, where respect for religious practices is vital to effective community engagement and service delivery. It is likewise timely in preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, a period that emphasizes compassion, service, dignity, and respect for life and death.
The coordination meeting was held at the Office of ENS ALFAHDZLY J ABIDIN, PCG, Chief Nurse of the Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit BARMM, at Coast Guard District BARMM, Polloc Free Port Ecozone, Parang, Maguindanao, and reaffirmed the shared commitment of CDR TUNGAN KANAPIA ALIMUDIN PCGA, and ENS ALFAHDZLY J ABIDIN PCG, to advance inclusive, ethical, and values-based health and medical training in support of Coast Guard operations and continued service to the Bangsamoro people.
