On 05-07 May 2026, Coast Guard Aviation Command (CGAvCom) thru Nursing Service conducted a Hepatitis B awareness and vaccination drive as part of its ongoing commitment to preventive and promotive healthcare for its personnel. The initiative aimed to strengthen awareness and preparedness in preventing Hepatitis B, a potentially serious viral infection that affects the liver and can impact overall operational readiness if left unaddressed.

The activity emphasized the importance of vaccination as the most effective means of protection against Hepatitis B, encouraging personnel to begin and complete the full vaccine series for optimal immunity. In addition, participants were educated on the significance of adhering to safe practices, including proper hygiene, safe handling of medical equipment, and avoidance of high-risk behaviors that may lead to transmission.

A key component of the drive was early detection through screening, allowing for timely medical intervention and management of cases. By promoting proactive health measures, CGAVCOM reinforces its dedication to safeguarding the well-being of its personnel while ensuring they remain fit and ready to carry out their critical missions.

Through initiatives like this, CGAVCOM continues to foster a culture of health awareness and responsibility, recognizing that a healthy workforce is essential to maintaining operational excellence and mission success.

The Coast Guard Aviation Command (CGAvCom), in strategic collaboration with the READY Eagles Club and Federation Fire Rescue, spearheaded a comprehensive β€œMass Casualty Incident Response Simulation and Fire Suppression & Rescue Training” on April 25, 2026. The exercise was conducted at the Headquarters Coast Guard Aviation Command, DOTr Hangar, Pasay City.

Under the direction of RADM JOHN B. ESPLANA PCG, Commander of CGAvCom, the initiative aimed to instill a high state of readiness among all pilots, co-pilots, flight mechanics, and administrative personnel. The training was designed to ensure a rapid and effective response to unforeseen aviation accidents and to bolster the Command's capability to assist in fire emergencies within the hangar's vicinity and across the broader NAIA compound.

The program provided personnel with rigorous, hands-on instruction. The curriculum focused on the proficient use of specialized equipment and tactical maneuvers, including:

β€’ Operation of Hydraulic Rescue Tools and victim extrication techniques from aircraft and other air assets.
β€’ Proper donning and doffing of bunker suits and helmets, and the utilization of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
β€’ Advanced fire hose handling (throw, roll, and recovery), the application of fire extinguishers, and active suppression tactics.

Through these simulated scenarios, CGAvCom continues to enhance its technical expertise and inter-agency interoperability. This proactive approach ensures that the Philippine Coast Guard remains a reliable and prepared force in maintaining the safety and security of the nation's premier aviation gateway.
