PARAรAQUE CITY โ The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) ink a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to facilitate the implementation of the free Updating Course on Basic Training โ Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (UBT-PSSR) for Filipino seafarers on Tuesday at the OWWA Seafarer Welfare Center in Paraรฑaque City
OWWA Administrator Atty. Patricia Yvonne M. Caunan signed the agreement on behalf of OWWA, while NMP Executive Director Victor A. Del Rosario represented the National Maritime Polytechnic. Also serving as signatories to the agreement were OWWA NCR Regional Director Ma. Teresa B. Capa and NMP Deputy Executive Director Mayla Macadawan.
The partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing the professional development, safety, and welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the maritime sector. Through the agreement, OWWA and NMP reaffirm their shared commitment to providing accessible, quality, and industry-compliant maritime training programs that will equip Filipino seafarers with the competencies required by international standards and evolving industry demands.
Under the program, participating seafarers will undergo the UBT-PSSR course, which aims to enhance their knowledge and skills in personal safety, social responsibilities, safety awareness, and professional conduct on board vessels. The training is designed to help maritime workers maintain compliance with global maritime regulations while strengthening their preparedness to perform their duties safely and effectively.
The collaboration also seeks to expand support services for Filipino seafarers by delivering relevant, high-quality, and cost-free training interventions that contribute to their employability, career advancement, and overall well-being.
Through this initiative, OWWA and NMP continue to uphold their commitment to empowering Filipino seafarers and ensuring that they remain globally competitive, highly skilled, and responsive to the demands of the international maritime industry.
