The (SC) celebrated its 125th Anniversary on June 11, 2026, marking more than a century of upholding the rule of law and protecting the constitutional rights of the Filipino people. This historic milestone underscores the SC’s enduring role as the guardian of the Constitution and its continuing efforts to make justice more accessible and more efficient under its five-year reform program, the Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations 2022-2027 (SPJI).
Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo led the celebration at the SC Quadrangle in Manila, joined by SC Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen, Associate Justices Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa, Ramon Paul L. Hernando, Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Henri Jean Paul B. Inting, Japar B. Dimaampao, Jose Midas P. Marquez, Maria Filomena D. Singh, and Raul B. Villanueva, together with Justices from other courts, SC officials and employees.
Also present at the celebration were retired SC Chief Justices Hilario G. Davide, Jr., Artemio V. Panganiban, Teresita J. Leonardo-de Castro, Lucas P. Bersamin, and Diosdado M. Peralta; and other retired SC Justices.
In his keynote message, Chief Justice Gesmundo highlighted how the Supreme Court has remained steadfast amid evolving challenges as well as reforms under the SPJI, including the expansion of digital court systems and electronic filing, modernization of case management, infrastructure development, and enhanced judicial education. He also underscored the Court’s initiatives to broaden legal aid, promote transparency, and reinforce the ethical foundations of the Judiciary and the legal profession through the 2025 Code of Conduct and Accountability for Court Officials and Personnel, the refinement of the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability, and the restatement of the Lawyer’s Oath.
The celebration, with the theme “Mula sa Tradisyon, Tungo sa Inobasyon”, opened with a Eucharistic Mass officiated by Manila Archbishop Jose F. Advincula, Jr. It also included the awarding of winners of the AI Hackathon, a competition conducted through the Management Information Systems Office which challenged Judiciary employees to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-ready solutions to address operational challenges within the courts. A trailer of the six-episode documentary film “Justice Reigns: 125 Years of the Supreme Court of the Philippines” which recounts the history of the SC and a highlight reel of activities held in celebration of the milestone anniversary were presented by the Office of the Spokesperson. A special video presentation which showcased past anniversary celebrations of the Court was also presented by the SC PIO-Communications Office. The celebration also featured musical performances and raffle prizes for SC officials and employees.
The anniversary program was hosted by Mr. Jose Salvador A. Zenarosa and Atty. Marilag B. Sadicon of the Office of the Spokesperson, Atty. Hyacinth B. Aldueso of the SC PIO-Communications Office, Atty. Marchellene B. Caday-Atitiw of the Office of Associate Justice Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, and MYX VJ Ozzie Llige.
As it marks its 125th year, the SC reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the rule of law and continue pursuing reforms that make justice more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the Filipino people.
