Department of Economy, Planning, and Development DEPDev is the primary policy, planning, coordinating, and monitoring arm of the Executive Branch of government on the national economy.

Under R.A. 12145, or the Economy, Planning, and Development Act, the NEDA Board shall be reconstituted as the Economy and Development Council or ED Council. Headed by the President of the Philippines, the ED Council is the executive collegial body responsible for directing and providing overall policy direction on economic matters to achieve inclusive and sustainable economic growth and developmen

๐ˆ๐ ๐๐‡๐Ž๐“๐Ž๐’: DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan administered the oath of office to Ms. Marie Jeanette P. Cordero as the newly appointed Director III of the DEPDev Development Information Staff (DIS) today, June 11, at the DEPDev Central Office in Mandaluyong City.

Assistant Director Cordero began her career in DEPDev as an Economic Development Specialist II and most recently served as the OIC-Director III of the DIS, where she provided leadership support and strategic guidance in the development and implementation of DEPDevโ€™s communication and advocacy programs.

Ms. Cordero is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Santo Tomas. She also earned her Masterโ€™s Degree in Development Management in 2023 from the Development Academy of the Philippines as part of The Middle Managers Class (MMC) Batch 30 โ€“ Sillag.

This June, the Philippines marks Judiciary Month, celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Supreme Court.

With the theme โ€œSC: 125 Years of Tradition and Innovation,โ€ the observance underscores the judiciaryโ€™s enduring legacy while highlighting its continuous efforts to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of society.

Declared under Presidential Proclamation No. 1265, s. 2026, the observance calls on government agencies, local government units, the private sector, and civil society to support and participate in the commemoration.

Established on June 11, 1901 through Act No. 136 of the Philippine Commission, the Supreme Court has stood as a pillar of justice, first led by Chief Justice Cayetano Arellano.

As the nation reflects on this historic milestone, DEPDev reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen governance, uphold democratic institutions, and promote inclusive development.

๐ˆ๐ ๐๐‡๐Ž๐“๐Ž๐’: DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan met with Climate Change Commission (CCC) Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Robert E.A. Borje on June 9 to discuss key climate and development priorities.

During the meeting, Balisacan and Borje tackled the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the countryโ€™s roadmap for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening climate action. They also discussed strategies to accelerate its implementation across key sectors and align national policies with climate targets.

The two officials also underscored the importance of deepening collaboration among stakeholders to support sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Also present were DEPDev Undersecretary Rosemarie G. Edillon and Assistant Secretary Reynaldo R. Cancio, CCC Deputy Executive Director Atty. Romel Antonio Cuenca, and other officials from both agencies.

๐‹๐Ž๐Ž๐Š: DEPDev Secretary Balisacan highlighted ongoing government efforts to strengthen the labor market, help workers and businesses navigate current challenges, and expand employment opportunities, following PSA's release of the April 2026 Labor Force Survey report.

The nationโ€™s chief economist noted that the government remains committed to protecting Filipino livelihoods amid ongoing challenges, including the Middle East crisis, the El Niรฑo phenomenon, and the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Mindanao. Through the UPLIFT framework, stronger industry partnerships, expanded market access, and continued investments in high-growth sectors, government efforts are being intensified to support quality job creation and promote more stable, productive, and inclusive employment for Filipinos.

๐“๐ˆ๐๐†๐๐€๐: Naitala ang 4.7 percent na unemployment rate sa bansa noong Abril 2026, mas mataas kumpara sa 4.1 percent na naiulat noong Abril 2025. Tumaas din sa 15.2 percent mula sa 14.6 percent ang underemployment rate.

Ayon sa Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), ang pangunahing nag-ambag sa pagtaas ng unemployment rate ay ang agriculture and wholesale and retail trade.

Sa kabila nito, nadagdagan ang bilang ng mga Pilipinong may trabaho na umabot sa 48.89 million noong Abril 2026 mula sa 48.67 million noong Abril 2025.

Ayon kay DEPDev Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan, ipinapakita nito ang kakayahan at katatagan ng mga Pilipinong manggagawa sa kabila ng mga hamon sa ekonomiya.
