Another essential right of every consumer is the Right to Information — the right to be provided with accurate facts needed to make informed choices and to be protected against misleading advertising, dishonest labeling, and unfair and deceptive sales practices.

Under the Consumer Act of the Philippines (RA 7394), which regulates deceptive sales acts, advertising practices, and standards on weights and measures. The No Shortchanging Act of 2016 (RA 10909) ensures consumers receive the correct/exact change and fair treatment in business transactions.

DTI Iloilo conducts regular monitoring of business establishments, strict enforcement of fair trade laws, consumer education campaigns, and immediate response to complaints involving misleading information or unfair trade practices.
DTI Iloilo has been actively conducting orientation and capacity building acitivities to empower consumers to make smarter and reliable purchasing decisions. ✔

In celebration of the coming World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, 2026, we are reminded of one of the fundamental rights of every Filipino consumer — the Right to Basic Needs.

This right ensures access to essential goods and services such as adequate food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, education, water, sanitation, and public utilities. Protecting this right means ensuring that basic necessities remain available, accessible, and fairly priced for all.

Guided by laws such as the 1987 Philippine Constitution, the Price Act (RA 7581), and the Local Government Code of 1991, DTI Iloilo actively works to safeguard this right by monitoring prices of basic necessities, preventing unfair trade practices, responding to consumer complaints, and coordinating with local government units to enforce consumer protection laws.

Through these efforts, DTI Iloilo remains committed to protecting consumers and promoting fair, accessible markets for every Ilonggo.

An informed consumer is an empowered consumer. ✔️
