The Department of Energy joined the Bohol Leaders Forum on Renewable Energy held on 03 June 2026. DOE Assistant Director Ruby De Guzman led the presentation of key national energy frameworks, including the Philippine Energy Plan (PEP), the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), and other priority renewable energy policies. She emphasized national directions on utility-scale renewable energy development, rooftop solar expansion for households and government facilities, and electrification initiatives for unserved and underserved communities.

The forum also highlighted the alignment of national strategies with local development plans, as provincial stakeholders presented Boholโ€™s own renewable energy direction and programs, supporting its goal of becoming a clean energy hub. A panel of regional leaders further shared best practices and successful renewable energy experiences to guide local implementation and strengthen energy self-reliance.

Efforts to restore electricity services continue across affected areas of Sarangani and nearby municipalities following the Magnitude 7.8 Mindanao earthquake.

In Jose Abad Santos, remaining outages persist in Barangays San Isidro, Quiapo, and Molmol, which are served by a single-phase lateral line. While the Saranganiโ€“Davao Coastal Road backbone line has already been energized, landslides and road damage continue to limit access to some areas, with certain locations reachable only by motorcycle, slowing down clearing and repair operations.

In Glan, partial energization has already been achieved in several barangays, while work continues across multiple communities with completion targets until 16 June 2026. However, some upland and remote barangays remain inaccessible due to road conditions, preventing full assessment and delaying restoration timelines.

The Department of Energy, together with concerned distribution utilities and field teams, continues to closely coordinate on-ground operations to safely restore electricity services while ensuring the protection of lineworkers and residents in affected areas.

South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative (SOCOTECO II) has now restored power to 325,900 out of 343,352 consumer connections, equivalent to 94.92% of its affected customers. Meanwhile, Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative (DASURECO) has restored electricity service to 201,538 out of 203,139 consumer connections, reaching 99.21% restoration.

With critical facilities already energized, restoration teams are now focused on reconnecting the remaining households and communities still affected by the earthquake. The Department of Energy, together with its attached agencies, electric cooperatives, and energy sector partners, continues to support safe, timely, and sustained restoration efforts across Mindanao.

Following the successful restoration of power to hospitals, airports, command centers, and other critical facilities, restoration efforts are now increasingly focused on energizing more communities and households affected by the Magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao.

Repair and rehabilitation work on power lines, poles, and other energy infrastructure continues as teams work to restore normal electricity service to affected families. These activities are being carried out with urgency while maintaining the highest safety standards to protect both restoration personnel and the public.

Through the collective efforts of electric cooperatives, lineworkers, engineers, and other energy frontliners, power is steadily being restored, and more homes and communities are being brought back online each day.

The Department of Energy (DOE) joins the international community in celebrating Global Wind Day, observed every June 15, in recognition of wind energy's growing contribution to a cleaner, more secure, and sustainable energy future.

Organized globally by WindEurope and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Global Wind Day highlights how wind can be harnessed as a reliable renewable energy source that helps reduce carbon emissions, strengthen energy security, and support economic growth.

The Philippines has long held a significant place in the region's wind energy development. In 2005, the country became the first in Southeast Asia to operate a large-scale wind farm through the Bangui Bay Wind Power Plant in Ilocos Norte, an iconic renewable energy landmark that demonstrated the potential of harnessing the country's abundant wind resources.

Under the Philippine Energy Plan 2023โ€“2050, wind energy remains a key component of the countryโ€™s clean energy transition, alongside other indigenous renewable energy resources. The DOE continues to pursue the national target of increasing the share of renewable energy in the power generation mix to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040, with offshore wind identified as an important pathway for future capacity expansion under the Power Development Plan 2023โ€“2050.

The DOE is likewise strengthening the enabling environment for wind development, particularly offshore wind, through Executive Order No. 21, which streamlines the policy and administrative framework for project development. With the countryโ€™s more than 178 gigawatts of technical offshore wind potential, wind energy is poised to contribute significantly to energy security, investment generation, job creation, and the countryโ€™s long-term sustainable development goals.

๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญโšก
