The Department of Science and Technology - Agusan del Sur proudly congratulates the AgSurnon qualifiers in this yearโ€™s DOST-Science Education Institute Undergraduate as per the live announcement on May 30, 2026.

Last March 7-8, the applicants took the qualifying exam at various testing centers: the Philippine Normal University-Mindanao, Trento National High School, and Bayugan National Comprehensive High School.

They will receive a monthly stipend, premium accident and health insurance, thesis allowance, transportation allowance, and a graduation allowance. Scholars studying in private institutions will also be given up to Php 40,000 tuition fee per academic year. Beyond the incentives, DOST scholars are set to enjoy the activities by the DOST-SEI during their undergraduate journey such as trainings, leadership workshops, and webinars.

The Department of Science and Technology - Agusan del Sur wishes these young minds good luck in their academic journey. May you pursue greater and more meaningful things with your dedication and efforts.

Strengthening science-driven agriculture in Agusan del Sur, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga through PSTO Agusan del Sur formally transferred Php 1,466,223.43 to the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur through the Provincial Research, Development and Innovation Office (PRDIO) during a ceremonial fund transfer held on May 25, 2026 at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Cultural Center, GDOP Government Center, Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

The fund transfer was led by DOST Caraga Regional Director Engr. Noel M. Ajoc and formally received by Agusan del Sur Governor Santiago B. The AGROW-Smart Project aims to transform the newly established Soils Laboratory of Agusan del Sur into a hub for molecular precision agriculture by equipping the PRDIO Biogeochemistry Laboratory with a ๐—š๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—˜๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ต๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ฆ๐˜†๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—บ for advanced molecular analysis and digital diagnostics.

The Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM) marks the first leg of the 2026 series of RSMs organized by the National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the DOST Mindanao Cluster, led by DOSTโ€“Region XIII (Caraga).

With the theme โ€œUN SDGs: Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development,โ€ the event brings together leading scientists, researchers, policymakers, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to assess Mindanaoโ€™s progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 2026 Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting continues today with the final two engaging plenary sessions:

The Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Agusan del Sur (DOST-ADS), in collaboration with the City Government of Bayugan, successfully conducted two batches of the Food Safety Training for Food Handlers in preparation for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa 2026.

The first batch of training was conducted on April 28, 2026, for MSMEs engaged in food-related businesses, while the second batch was held on May 18, 2026, for regional food-in-charge personnel billeted in Bayugan City. The activity gathered participants who play a vital role in ensuring the safety and quality of food served during the national sporting event.

The training proper was facilitated by Ms. Marie Kris P. Delarmente, Provincial Director, and Engr. Christine A. Buyan, Science Research Specialist II, who provided comprehensive discussions on food safety principles, proper food handling, sanitation procedures, personal hygiene, contamination prevention, and other essential food safety measures. Participants were also reminded of the importance of maintaining clean food preparation areas and observing standard food safety protocols to help prevent foodborne illnesses.

The activity emphasized the significant role of food safety in delivering quality food service and promoting responsible food handling practices among food handlers and service providers. It also strengthened the commitment of all stakeholders to ensure that safe, hygienic, nutritious, and high-quality food will be served to athletes, delegates, officials, and visitors throughout the conduct of Palarong Pambansa 2026.

Through this initiative, DOST-Agusan del Sur continues to support local government efforts in promoting public health, consumer protection, and food safety awareness in the community.

The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL), in partnership with the DOST Regional Offices โ€“ Mindanao Cluster, led by the DOST-Regional Office XIII (Caraga), is set to hold the 2026 Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM) on 19-20 May 2026 in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.

As the second leg of this yearโ€™s Regional Scientific Meetings, following the successful Luzon RSM, the Mindanao RSM highlights the vital role of Mindanao in advancing science, technology, and innovation (STI) for sustainable development. With the theme โ€œUN SDGs: Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development,โ€ the Mindanao RSM serves as a key preparatory activity for the 48th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM).

The Mindanao RSM will feature plenary and scientific poster sessions, bringing together representatives from various sectors across different regions in Mindanao. The event will also be streamed live via Zoom and Facebook.

As part of the Department of Science and Technologyโ€™s (DOST) priority legislative agenda for the 20th Congress, the Department, through its Legislative Liaison Office (DLLO) and the National Metrology Division (NMD) of the Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI), conducted lobbying sessions on May 5, 2026 with the Legislative and Legal Officers of the Offices of Speaker Faustino โ€œBojieโ€ De Guzman Dy III and Congressman Albert Raymond โ€œAbetโ€ Garcia. To generate broader support for the proposed ๐๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐Œ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ฌ (๐๐Œ๐ˆ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ) ๐€๐œ๐ญ, the Department seeks the support of legislative champions in Congress to file the bill.

During the discussions, Mr. Michael Jason Solis of the NMD emphasized that many sectors in the country, at both the national and local levels, face metrology-related challenges such as inconsistent measurements, unavailability of measurement services locally, and limited alignment with international standards. These challenges are already resulting in risks to public health and safety, creating barriers to trade and industrial growth, and reducing national competitiveness among others.

๐Ÿ“ŒThe proposed ๐๐Œ๐ˆ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ ๐€๐œ๐ญ seeks to establish the countryโ€™s national metrology institute, a premier research and development institution in measurement science and the lead authority for providing trusted, innovative measurement solutions. Its work will serve as the foundation of fair trade, consumer protection, industrial competitiveness, scientific advancement, and regulatory integrity across the country. A strong national measurement system, with the NMIPhil as its driver, will help ensure that every measurement affecting health, safety, commerce, agriculture, energy, and the environment is reliable and trusted both locally and globally.

The bill has already been approved by the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology and is now for endorsement to the Committees on Ways and Means and Appropriations.

The ๐๐Œ๐ˆ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž is included in the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023โ€“2028 under Chapter 8: Advancing Research and Development, Technology, and Innovation.
