Stroke remains one of the leading causes of physical disability in the Philippines. To address the need for accessible and advanced physical therapy, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), in collaboration with De La Salle University – Institute of Biomedical Engineering & Health Technologies (DLSU-IBEHT), supported the development of 𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐏𝐀𝐘, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘦𝘹𝘰𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯!

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 & 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆: Combines active and passive motion exercises with interactive haptics to promote neuroplasticity and speed up recovery.

The Department of Science and Technology Caraga, together with DOST Agusan del Sur, successfully conducted 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝟮 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗔𝗜) 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼, 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 (𝗠𝗦𝗠𝗘𝘀) on July 28, 2026, in Trento, Agusan del Sur.

The training gathered local MSMEs and civil society organizations to strengthen their knowledge of AI and its practical applications in business. Participants explored how AI can support business operations, improve productivity, enhance customer engagement, and aid informed decision-making.

Ms. Caressa Leanne V. Lim, Supervising Science Research Specialist of DOST Agusan del Sur, and Ms. Jenifer T. Villaplaza, Science Research Specialist II of DOST-Caraga, guided participants through the fundamentals of AI, real-world business use cases, step-by-step AI integration, ethical and governance principles, and practical frameworks for effective and sustainable AI deployment.

Hon. Kristoffer G. Calvez, Municipal Mayor of Trento, expressed his appreciation to DOST Caraga and DOST Agusan del Sur for bringing the training to the municipality and highlighted the importance of digital technologies in empowering local enterprises.

The activity forms part of DOST's continuing efforts to promote science, technology, and innovation among MSMEs and support their growth toward becoming more productive, resilient, competitive, and future-ready.

The activity gathered local MSMEs, cooperatives, and associations to strengthen their understanding of the fundamentals and practical applications of AI in business. As AI continues to transform industries, participants were introduced to innovative digital tools that can automate routine tasks, improve operational efficiency, enhance customer engagement, optimize marketing strategies, and support informed decision-making. These technologies empower MSMEs to increase productivity, foster innovation, and enhance their competitiveness in today's digital economy.

The training modules were discussed by Ms. Marie Kris P. Delarmente, Provincial Director of DOST Agusan del Sur, and Ms. Caressa Leanne V. Lim, Supervising Science Research Specialist of DOST Agusan del Sur, and facilitated by Ms. Jenifer T. Villaplaza, Science Research Specialist II – DOST Caraga. Through interactive discussions and hands-on demonstrations, participants gained practical knowledge on AI-powered tools and explored how these technologies can be integrated into their day-to-day business operations.

The Provincial Rollout Training on AI for MSMEs forms part of DOST's continuing efforts to promote digital transformation and technology adoption among local enterprises. By equipping MSMEs with emerging technologies and digital capabilities, DOST Caraga and DOST Agusan del Sur reaffirm their commitment to fostering innovation, enhancing business resilience, and supporting sustainable economic growth in the region.

PROSPERIDAD, AGUSAN DEL SUR — In a continuous effort to drive operational excellence among local businesses, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Agusan del Sur successfully conducted a specialized training session titled "Optimizing Production Spaces: Plant Layout and Workflow Design for MSMEs" on June 30, 2026.

The event took place at the DOST Agusan del Sur Function Hall in Patin-ay, Prosperidad, and gathered 35 participants representing various micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the province.

The training was specifically designed to help local entrepreneurs transition into more structured, efficient, and safer manufacturing environments. Key areas discussed were: effective plant layout planning, workflow optimization, production quality and efficiency strategies, and workplace safety.

Serving as the resource speaker was Ms. Marie Kris P. Delarmente, the DOST-ADS Provincial Director and Head of the Food Safety Team–Caraga. With her extensive expertise in food safety and industrial standards, Ms. Delarmente provided actionable insights and strategic guidance tailored to the unique challenges faced by growing enterprises.

This initiative reflects DOST's continuing commitment to empowering local MSMEs through science, technology, and innovation, fostering more productive, competitive, and sustainable enterprises across Agusan del Sur.

Every weather observation plays a vital role in building safer and more resilient communities. Through 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀, the 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 – 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 (𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧-𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗜) has established a nationwide network of hydrometeorological and early warning stations that provide near real-time weather and environmental data to support informed decision-making.

Developed under the 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗗) initiative, PhilSensors helps strengthen weather forecasting, flood monitoring, agrometeorology, and disaster risk reduction. With over 2,000 stations strategically deployed across the country, the network continuously monitors rainfall, water levels, weather conditions, and other environmental parameters essential for disaster preparedness and climate resilience.

Each station plays a unique role in collecting valuable environmental data that supports government agencies, researchers, local government units, farmers, and communities.

The data collected by PhilSensors is publicly accessible through the PhilSensors website and the PhilSensors mobile application, available on Google Play Store. Users can conveniently view near real-time weather information, explore station locations, request historical datasets, and, for eligible government and academic institutions, access weather data through an Application Programming Interface (API) for research and forecasting.

Through science, technology, and innovation, DOST continues to develop smart solutions that enhance disaster preparedness, strengthen climate resilience, and empower communities with reliable environmental information.

As part of its continuing commitment to strengthen the competitiveness of local enterprises, the DOST-Agusan del Sur conducted the 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 on June 16, 2026 at DOST-Agusan del Sur Function Hall, GDOP Government Center, Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

The activity gathered thirty-five (35) participants from different municipalities of the province representing various sectors of enterprises committed to improving their products, services and production processes.

Serving as the resource speaker was Ms. Mary Grace T. Pulido, Senior Science Research Specialist. She shared practical knowledge and strategies on effective operations management, process optimization, and continuous improvement approaches that participant can apply in their respective enterprises.

At the end of the training, MSMEs in Agusan del Sur were empowered to identify opportunities for improving efficiency, minimizing operational bottlenecks, and enhancing productivity and product quality.

Through initiatives like this, DOST continues to support the growth of local MSMEs by fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
