In celebration of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, an advocacy activity was successfully conducted by the dedicated, hardworking, and highly committed Ma’am Maureen Ali, the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) Focal Person. Known for her compassionate, proactive, and service-oriented approach, Ma’am Maureen led the activity with great enthusiasm and professionalism.

The activity aimed to raise awareness about tuberculosis, its prevention, early detection, and proper treatment within the community. Ma’am Maureen Ali delivered an informative and engaging discussion, emphasizing the importance of timely consultation, strict adherence to medication, and strong community cooperation in preventing the spread of TB.

Health education was effectively provided to participants, highlighting the signs and symptoms of TB, as well as the availability of free diagnostic and treatment services at the Rural Health Unit. Her passionate and tireless efforts greatly contributed to the success of the activity.

Representatives from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, visited RHU Pahamuddin to assess the current status of health service delivery. The activity was attended by the BHS midwife and RHU staff, along with Dr. Pancho A. Cruz.

During the visit, discussions were conducted regarding the various issues and concerns affecting the implementation of different health programs in the municipality. The MSF team, together with the health staff, identified gaps, challenges, and priority needs that require immediate attention and support.

Key areas highlighted included limitations in resources, accessibility of services, and challenges in delivering programs in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. An orientation on the risk factors of lifestyle-related diseases, together with an advocacy session on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), was successfully conducted at Simsiman and Binasing Elementary School. The activity aimed to raise awareness among students on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent non-communicable diseases.

The advocacy was conducted by SGAFHO and the Regional NCD Team, with the presence of Dr. Pancho Cruz, along with the BHS Midwife of Brgy. Simsiman Ma’am Rayhana Kanakan, and BHS Midwife of Brgy. Binasing Ma’am Maureen Ali, NCD Focal Person, HEPO Focal Person, Sanitary Inspector, and Adolescent Focal Person. Their collective expertise and support contributed significantly to the success of the activity.

During the session, key topics discussed included unhealthy dietary habits, physical inactivity, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption as major risk factors for lifestyle-related diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and CKD. Participants were also educated on the early signs and symptoms of CKD, its complications, and the importance of early detection and regular health check-ups.

The advocacy emphasized the importance of proper nutrition, regular physical activity, adequate hydration, and avoidance of harmful substances to promote overall health and well-being. Students actively participated in the discussions, demonstrating increased awareness of how lifestyle choices can affect their long-term health.

The activity was successfully implemented through the collaborative efforts of SGAFHO, the Regional NCD Team, Rural Health Unit staff, school personnel, and student participants. Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Pahamuddin successfully held a “salo-salo Kanduli” in celebration of Eid 2026. All staff members actively participated in the gathering, together with the Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Pancho A. Cruz. The activity fostered unity, camaraderie, and gratitude among the health workers as they celebrated the occasion.

After the celebration, a meeting was held to discuss the current status of health programs and services. The team also prepared for the upcoming visitation of a non-government organization (NGO), which aims to assess the situation in the cluster. Specifically, the NGO intends to identify existing gaps, challenges, and priority problems encountered in the implementation of programs, in order to determine areas that need support and possible interventions.

The discussion focused on presenting key concerns within the cluster and aligning strategies to improve service delivery and address the needs of the community effectively.

The Rural Health Unit of Pahamuddin, led by Dr. Pancho A. Cruz, Municipal Health Officer, along with the RHU, BHS staff and Barangay Health Workers, successfully participated in a Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held at Barangay D. Binasing.

The activity aimed to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure that health personnel are equipped with the knowledge and proper response in the event of an earthquake.

During the drill, participants practiced the standard earthquake safety protocol known as “Duck, Cover, and Hold.” The simulation allowed the staff to rehearse the correct procedures to protect themselves and assist others during emergency situations. The activity also emphasized the importance of staying calm, alert, and coordinated during disasters.

On this day, Rural Health Unit of Pahamuddin, led by Dr. Pancho A. Cruz, the Municipal Health Officer, along with the RHU, BHS staff and Barangay Health Workers, participated in a Simultaneous Earthquake Drill held at Barangay Datu Binasing as part of the initiative to strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response within the community.

Week 4 — RHU Pahamudin’s Measles Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MRSIA) continues to gain momentum across the 12 barangays:

Simsiman, Datu Binasing, Lower Baguer, Buricain, Balacayon, Kadingilan, Matilac, Libungan Torreta, Upper Pangankalan, Lower Pangankalan, Patot, and Datu Mantil.

Through a combination of fixed-post vaccination sites and house-to-house visits, the team remains committed to reaching every eligible child especially those in geographically isolated and hard-to-reach areas to ensure complete and equitable immunization coverage.

In addition to MRSIA, RHU Pahamudin continues to provide essential health services, including health education and advocacy, family planning, and other key community-based programs. These integrated efforts aim to strengthen public awareness, promote preventive care, and support the overall health and well-being of every barangay.
