This day, November 25, marks the start of Social Welfare Week, which runs until December 1. Once again, we give thanks to the heroes who don’t wear capes but wear the courage to serve.

This week each year, we honor and appreciate them while also raising public awareness, recognizing the work of social welfare professionals, promoting social justice and well-being, and giving the community a platform to share feedback to improve government social programs.

Today also marks the beginning of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), which runs until December 12. But why stop there? Why fight for our rights and highlight this issue for only a short period—when we can, and should, do it every single day?

We stand on the frontline because it is in our nature and our duty to fight for justice. It is our role to amplify your voice.
So stand with us.
Together, we can end discrimination and violence—one unified action at a time.

"Rage doesn't add power, so stay gentle for everyone has different shared stories"

People often throw a word without even realizing the rain of arrows it strikes to someone. Sometimes, the deeper the cuts may get, the plenty the blood that bleeds. So it's better to be wise about cracking a jokes, shouting at someone, judging easily without knowing the whole part of the story, and ignoring someone's feelings, making them question their worth because we doesn't know their efforts trying to ease the pain behind closed doors. Being kind and considerate doesn't worth a single peso but heals a thousand wounds that became their burden every single day.

Global Mental Health Day is observed every 10th of October. Mental health is integral part of our overall well-being. It influences how we speak, think, and behave. It affects our ability to react in certain situations, cope with distress, and build relationships with others. World Mental Health Day serves as a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health. By promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and increasing access to mental health services, we can create a more supportive and inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Let us work together to prioritize mental health and build a more compassionate world.

"We won't forget and we wont stay silent"

OPINION | 53 years ago, we rose as one voice against injustice. Today, as history dares to repeat itself, we rise again—louder, stronger, unyielding.

It started out for the people but quickly turned against us. Drunk with power, they played god while enjoying the riches they stole. But that isn’t the only thing they’ve stolen—our rights, even our lives. 70,000 were imprisoned, 11,000 tortured and abused, 3,200 killed—and those are only the numbers we know.

Behind those numbers were people just like us, fighting for our rights and our country. So we won’t wait for another massacre to occur, nor for those numbers to rise. Instead, we will be the ones to rise up against them, raise our flags, and raise our voices.

The very people who promised us order oppressed us. The hands that vowed to free us shackled us instead. The very laws that promised us safety drew bloodshed. We deserve—no, we demand—accountability and transparency.

As social workers, we will stand first in line. We will raise our flag in defiance, and we will shout until our voices go hoarse, but we'll never stop. Our voices will never break, never settle in silence, until others join the movement. They may wield weapons against us, but we have something stronger—our voices. And together, we hold strength in our numbers.

We gave them power over us, and we can just as easily take it back.

Social Work Department Retains Ms. CapSU-Pilar Crown

The Social Work Department has once again proven its elegance and excellence in the Mr. and Miss. CapSU-Pilar pageant, as their candidate, Ms. Cheri Mae A. Mariano, was crowned this year’s titleholder. Her victory marks a back-to-back win for the department, following last year’s triumph by Ms. Ruffa Mae Juntilla.

Mariano captivated the judges and audience with her poise, charm, and confidence throughout the competition. Her performance not only secured the crown but also earned her several minor awards, including Ms. Photogenic, Best in Production, and Best in Formal Wear.

This consecutive win solidifies the Social Work Department’s reputation for producing outstanding candidates in pageantry. With Mariano’s success, the department continues to inspire pride and admiration across the Capiz State University-Pilar Satellite College.

Cheri Mae A. Mariano(Ms. CapSU-Pilar 2025) from BSSW and Harvey Skylar Bartolome(Mr. CapSU-Pilar 2025) from BSHM will represent CapSU Pilar during the InterCapSU Meet 2025.
