#𝐊𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐠𝟒𝐊𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐢𝐡𝐚𝐧 | This National Women's Month, the 4K Program proudly features Gemalyn Alis Paga of the Minadaongjol Katutubong Agta Farmers Association in Brgy. Minadongjol, Sagñay, Camarines Sur.
Mrs. Paga has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to community service through various roles and initiatives. From 2010 to 2018, she served as a Parent Leader for beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), assisting in updating beneficiary profiles, bridging communication between the agency and households, monitoring compliance in education and health, and facilitating Family Development Sessions on parenting, health, and financial management.
From 2018 to 2021, she served as President of the Minadongjol Hog Raisers Association under the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program. In 2021, she was appointed as Temporary Indigenous Peoples Chieftain, where she led the community according to customary laws and traditions, mediated disputes, and represented the community in engagements with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and other agencies.
The primary subprojects extended by the 4K Program of DA-RFO V focus on High Value Crops, particularly vegetable production. Support provided to the association includes vegetable seeds, organic fertilizers, garden tools, farm facilities, machinery, and assistance for vermi production as a sustainable source of farm inputs. Members also benefited from several capacity-building activities such as training on Nursery Management, High Value Crop Production, and Vermi Production and Vermicomposting.
Demonstrating proactive leadership, Mrs. Paga also prepared and submitted a proposal for the establishment of an Indigenous Peoples (IP) Agri-Trading Center. This proposed project aims to provide members of the association with better market access, improved income opportunities, and a centralized venue for trading agricultural products, ultimately strengthening the economic position of Indigenous Peoples farmers in their community.
