Anchored on the theme, "Bayanihan sa Paaralan, Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman," parents, students, and faculty members of Dole Cannery Central Elementary School (DCCES) joined forces as they officially commence their participation in Brigada Eskwela 2026 to foster a well-maintained and learner-friendly environment ahead of the new school year.
On the second day of the activity, volunteers continued various preparation efforts across the campus, including the cleaning of classrooms, clearing of pathways, repainting of walls, and the demolition of a decades-old school building to make way for safer and improved facilities for learners.
Alongside the school's cleanup efforts, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Cannery Site brought its Brigada Eskwela: Reuse and Reward program to DCCES on June 2, making the school the second stop of the youth-led initiative following its implementation at Perfecto B. Salada Elementary School.
Under the program, learners received a set of school supplies in exchange for recyclable plastic bottles and aluminum cans, seeking to promote proper waste management practices while helping learners prepare for the upcoming school year.
Learners and parents who participated in the activity expressed gratitude for the assistance provided through the program, citing both its educational and environmental benefits.
Among the beneficiaries was Alleah Galupo, an incoming Grade 2 learner, who expressed happiness upon receiving school supplies through the initiative.
"Happy. Thank you sa SK kay gitagaan mi," she said.
Her father, Eulogio Galupo, shared that the program helped ease their family's financial burden by allowing them to save money intended for school supplies.
"Okay kaayo iyang mga pamaagi kay nakahatag gid og tabang sa mga estudyante, labi na tung sa mga pigado pud kaayo nga walay ikapalit og mga gamit, so makatabang gid siya," Galupo said.
He expressed that the assistance came at a convenient time, as the family had yet to purchase school supplies for the upcoming school year.
"Nakatabang siya sa akong pamilya, kay pareha ani karon, maay kay wala pakoy napalit kay wala paman pud koy ikapalit, so ma-save namo among mga magasto para sa mga gamit," he added.
As school year 2026-2027 draws near, school personnel and volunteers are expected to complete the remaining maintenance and improvement operations to ensure that learners are welcomed into a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment when classes officially open on June 8.
