Do you know
Our best supporting actor, Andriane Cedric Egnal, is a real-life minor working at the sugarcane plantation in Negros. He started working at the age of 16.
There’s more…
We wanted our film to be as realistic as possible and so we scouted for sugarcane workers who could act. When we settled down on him, we asked him if the script somehow resembled the life of sugarcane workers at their area. Much to our surprise he confessed that the story was so close to his own personal life. He also lost his father and he works at the field to help his mother earn a living. He also has young siblings to attend to.
While the narrative was adapted from a story for children by Orland Solis, much of the details were fleshed out in the script and they were never based on Cedric’s life. It could be coincidence but aside from the fictitious characters, the conditions presented in the story are all too real.
Cedric still works at the sugarcane plantation and during our shooting schedule, our director just followed him wherever he was working at and right there and then, shots will be taken of him slashing and hauling sugarcanes.
Cedric is also a very good actor. He memorizes his lines and always comes prepared during shooting. His acting is so natural that our director never experienced any difficulty giving him instructions.
Tiempo Suerte is Cedric’s first acting role. If you haven’t seen him in action, watch our short film here and let us know what you think! Don’t forget to hit the like button! :)
