Agusan del Sur's Karate Athletes Bag 29 Medals at Araw ng Dabaw Karate-do Tournament

The 86th Araw ng Dabaw Karate-do Invitational Tournament has come to a close, with a number of talented athletes taking home medals. The tournament, which took place from March 17-20, 2023, was held at NCCC Mall in Buhangin, Davao City.
A total of 25 athletes from Agusan del Sur coached by Jessie Rivera with his team competed in various categories, showcasing their impressive skills and techniques in front of the judges and spectators.
Tremendous effort put in at the tournament and their hard work paid off as they bagged 29 medals. They demonstrated their skills, discipline, and dedication to their craft, with some of them winning bronze, silver, and gold medals in both the Kata and Kumite categories.
Among them were the bronze medalists Reyner James Divina Gracia, Ivan Dave Doloricon (KATA), Aron Jay Rivera, Hezekia Cabrales, Mayette Rose Morillo (KATA), Reylyn Embalsado, Rechelyn Adolfo, Ellyn Odvina, Prince Jay Betaizar, Donna Sabado, Carl Lheo Morillo, and James Melendez. The silver medalists included Sonny Boy Platero, Ivan Dave Doloricon (Kumite), Mayette Rose Morillo (kumite), Deniel John Mabini, Chan de Beneto, Leonemer Benedicto, King Jasper Delos Reyes, and Julius Dumay. Finally, the gold medalists were Aj Rhym Rivera, Arnie John Paul Rivera (Kata/Kumite), Glory Jane Dumay (Kumite), Syrus John Platero Kv Eco, and Carl Lheo Morillo (Kumite), who won in both Kata and Kumite categories.
These athletes underwent extensive training and preparation leading to the tournament with the help of the Philippine Karatedo Association (PKA)of Agusan del Sur led by Mr. Rivera. This included both technical and physical workouts aimed at enhancing their strength, agility, and endurance, as well as Kata and Kumite skills. They also have worked on mental preparation methods like visualization and meditation to help them focus and perform under pressure. All of their preparatory activities helped them perform well and bring home the medals.
Some of these Karate-do athletes from Agusan del Sur were also recognized for their success in the Regional Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) on March 23-25, 2023. Gold medals were awarded to Ronel Neones, Selviano Soriano, and Christian Dave Tagyanon, while Reyner James Divinagracia brought home a silver medal and Aleah Jane Prieto and Chery Mae Tecson won bronze medals. This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work these athletes put into their training and preparation, and further highlights their talent and skill in the sport of Karate-do. Their success at both tournaments is a source of pride for the people of Agusan del Sur, and a great accomplishment for the athletes themselves.
