The Provincial Research Development and Innovation Office (PRDIO) - Agusan del Sur Biogeochemistry Laboratory conducted a Pre-Assessment on ISO/IEC with the Department of Science and Technology - Caraga (DOST Caraga) on October 01, 2026.

The activity aimed to assess the laboratory's current systems, processes, and practices against applicable ISO/IEC requirements and identify areas for improvement toward enhanced quality, competence, reliability, and continual improvement of laboratory services.

This initiative reflects PRDIO's commitment to strengthening its laboratory capabilities and delivering quality, science-based, and reliable services to support research, innovation, and development in Agusan del Sur.

🌱PRDIO Joins 1st SAPSS Conference on Soil Health and Sustainable Soil Management

The Provincial Research Development and Innovation Office (PRDIO) participated in the 1st Annual Conference and Scientific Meeting of the Society for the Advancement of Philippine Soil Science (SAPSS) held on September 23–25, 2026, at the Southern Leyte State University–Hinunangan Campus.

With the theme, “Managing Soils, Securing Futures: Addressing Soil Degradation through Soil Health Management,” the three-day conference brought together soil science enthusiasts, researchers, faculty members, and students from various institutions across the country.

The conference provided an important platform for strengthening participants’ knowledge and technical competencies in soil science, particularly in soil health, soil management, and field-based soil assessment. It also promoted professional collaboration and knowledge exchange, while the field soil survey in Southern Leyte provided practical experience in examining soil profiles, morphology, and soil-forming processes.

The knowledge and skills gained from the conference are relevant to PRDIO’s current undertakings in soil health management, soil testing, soil survey, and the development of science-based recommendations for farmers. The acquired field-based approaches and updated technical knowledge can support PRDIO’s efforts to improve soil assessment, strengthen research and extension services, and promote sustainable soil and land management practices in Agusan del Sur.

Five technical staff from the PRDIO are currently in Australia to participate in the 5-Week Intensive Training Program on Soil Science and Soil-Plant Nutrient Analysis: Theory and Practice at the School of Environment and Science, Griffith University.

The 1st week of the training focused on laboratory induction, health and safety, wellness training, and competency examinations, preparing the participants for the intensive technical training ahead.

This capacity-building initiative aims to strengthen the technical expertise of PRDIO staff in soil and plant nutrient analysis and further enhance the laboratory’s capabilities in support of agricultural research and development in Agusan del Sur.

The training marks another step toward building stronger technical capacity and advancing soil and plant nutrient analysis services through continuous learning and international collaboration.🔬🇦🇺 🤝
