February is just around the corner, and we usher in the year preparing for National Arts Month 2026!

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts, through the Subcommission on the Arts and the Conrado Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation Inc., continues to celebrate Filipino artistry and creativity with National Arts Month 2026 and its overarching theme โ€œAni ng Sining: Katotohanan at Gitingโ€, underscoring how the arts uphold truth, courage, and collaboration and how it contributes to building livable communities, responsible governance, and a sustainable society.

This yearโ€™s theme illustrates that art is not merely the product of the creative mind, but also the outcome of peoplesโ€™ shared experiences and collective aspirations. As an expression of truth and valor, art becomes a wellspring of hope and a guiding force towards a more just and progressive society.

Join us in the upcoming celebrations!

Tune in on our social media pagtes for more announcements and activities as we celebrate Ani ng Sining!

After introducing our first facilitator for tomorrowโ€™s public program, master mat weaver Janeth Sabtal-Hanapi, let us now get to know another cultural bearer from Brookeโ€™s Point, Palawan โ€” ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐‹๐š๐›๐ข๐ง ๐“๐ข๐›๐ฅ๐š๐ค!

Ms. Labin is a renowned Palaโ€™wan master basket weaver of the traditional ๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘›๐‘”๐‘˜๐‘’๐‘ basket from the Indigenous community of Brookeโ€™s Point, Palawan. She learned how to weave at the age of eight, mastering patterns and techniques passed down through generations.

She is the co-founder of Sublit Labin Handicrafts, established with her husband Sublito Tiblak, which supports their family and promotes Palaโ€™wan basketry. Ms. Labin also teaches basket weaving at the NCCA School of Living Tradition in Amas, Brookeโ€™s Point, where she passes on her knowledge to children and youth and continues her work as a cultural bearer of Palaโ€™wan weaving traditions.

In 2015, she participated in the Mat and Basket Weaving Demonstration at the National Museum of the Philippines - Anthropology in Manila, helping bring Palaโ€™wan weaving to a wider audience.

We are honored to have Ms. Labin share her skills and stories with our participants in โ€œWeaving Heritage and Tradition through Baskets and Mats.โ€

This November, as we celebrate Filipino Values Month, we bring the message of values education directly to our youth through the โ€˜Balay Pinoyโ€™ School Caravan.

Rooted in the Filipino spirit of balayโ€”a home where learning, community, and compassion thriveโ€”the caravan engages students through storytelling, cultural activities, and the well-loved Filipino Values animation series featuring General Tuna.

By highlighting the 20 Core Filipino Values, from love of family and faith to integrity, resilience, and love of country, the program nurtures pride in our identity and inspires value-driven action among young Filipinos.

Join us on November 20 at Florentino Torres High School and on November 25 at Fernando Ma. Guerrero Elementary School as we continue fostering a more united, respectful, and resilient Filipino community.
