READ | DILG: PPSC Strengthens Cybersecurity Workforce Through National Cyber Training Institute
As criminals increasingly exploit digital platforms to target individuals, businesses, and institutions, the Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) is strengthening the country's cybersecurity workforce to help keep communities safe in an increasingly connected world, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.
The DILG highlighted the role of the PPSC's National Cyber Training Institute (NCTI) in preparing law enforcement personnel to address emerging cyber threats, strengthen digital investigations, and enhance the government's capacity to protect the public from online crimes.
The initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s vision of building safer, smarter, and more resilient communities while advancing the administration's digitalization and cybersecurity agenda.
"As technology evolves, so do the threats faced by our communities. Our law enforcement personnel must be equipped not only to respond to crimes on the ground, but also to crimes committed in cyberspace. Through the NCTI, we are building the expertise needed to protect Filipinos in the digital age," the Department said.
The NCTI provides specialized training designed to help law enforcement officers identify, detect, investigate, and respond to cyber threats while strengthening the protection of public institutions and critical systems against digital risks.
At present, the Institute has 183 students enrolled in three specialized programs and has already produced 514 graduates through its Cyber Leadership Executive Course (CLEC), Cyber Orientation Course (COC), and Cyber Intermediate Course (CIC).
Recognizing that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, the NCTI has also expanded its training initiatives to the youth sector through the Cyber Youth Leadership Course (CYLC), implemented in partnership with the National Youth Commission (NYC).
The program's first batch consists of 45 scholars composed of Sangguniang Kabataan officials, Local Youth Development Officers, and Youth Organization Registration Program (YORP) officers from the National Capital Region, CALABARZON, and Central Luzon.
Building on the success of the pilot run, the second batch will expand participation to students from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and community youth leaders in coordination with local government units.
Meanwhile, the PPSC continues to strengthen the overall capabilities of the country's public safety sector through its Master Education and Training Program (METP), which provides competency-based training for police, fire, jail, and other public safety personnel.
As of 2025, the program has completed 218 classes and produced 11,219 graduates nationwide. Another 34 classes remain ongoing, with 1,389 students and trainees currently undergoing training across PPSC constituent units, reinforcing the government's commitment to developing a highly skilled, professional, and future-ready public safety workforce.
