PCS ANGKLUNG ENSEMBLE MAKES HISTORY, BRINGS PRIDE TO PUGO CENTRAL SCHOOL!

A remarkable milestone for Pugo Central School!

The Pugo Central School Angklung Ensemble was invited to perform at the prestigious awarding ceremony for the Most Outstanding Teaching and Non-Teaching Personnel of the Province of La Union, held at the Francisco Ortega Convention Center in San Fernando City, La Union, on October 9, 2026.

Led by Dr. Rhea E. Flores, together with the dedicated PCS teachers, Mrs. Jean Boado, Mrs. Marlyn Angeleo, Ms. Monaliza T. Rivera, Mrs. Rheinalyn Calazara, and Mr. Noel Reyes, our talented learners proudly showcased their musical skills and brought the beautiful sounds of the angklung to this distinguished provincial gathering. Their performance was a testament to the learners' talent, dedication, teamwork, and the school's commitment to nurturing excellence beyond the classroom.

This special invitation marks another significant achievement for Pugo Central School. Having made history as the first elementary school angklung ensemble in the Province of La Union, PCS continues to open new doors for young learners to discover their talents, embrace cultural appreciation, and shine on bigger stages. From its launch during the PTA General Assembly last September to this remarkable provincial performance, the ensemble has already made its mark!
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the Municipality of Pugo, La Union, under the leadership of Mayor Geralyn Garcia Bulao-Caoili, for generously providing transportation assistance. We also extend our sincere appreciation to our ever-supportive parents, whose unwavering encouragement and support have been instrumental in the ensemble's journey since its establishment this school year.

To our talented learners, dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and community partners, thank you for being part of this meaningful achievement. Together, we continue to create opportunities for our learners to grow, perform, and excel.

Pugo Central School officially launched the ARAL (Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning) Program on September 28, 2026, at 8:00 AM, spearheaded by School Principal Dr. Rhea E. Flores, with the participation of PCS teachers, identified ARAL learners and their parents.

Anchored on DepEd's commitment to addressing learning gaps and strengthening foundational literacy, the kick-off marked another significant step toward providing targeted, needs-based learning interventions to help every learner achieve essential reading competencies.

The program highlighted the vital roles of ARAL tutors Mrs. Helen Cabutotan and Ms. Ermelyn Adawe, who will facilitate reading interventions designed to address the identified learning needs of participating learners.

Following the kick-off ceremony, an orientation was conducted for the parents of identified ARAL learners. The discussion focused on the program's objectives, intervention schedule, and the shared responsibilities of teachers, tutors, and parents in ensuring consistent participation and meaningful learning progress.

Under the ARAL Program implementation guidelines, reading interventions will be conducted after regular academic sessions, with two hours of targeted instruction per week.

Through strong school-home collaboration, PCS reaffirms its commitment to making learning recovery a shared responsibility and ensuring that every learner receives the support needed to become a confident and independent reader.

La Union Schools Division Superintendent Sir Jorge Reinante visited the 106 Grade 6 learners of Pugo Central School to share an inspiring message centered on learner safety, security, responsible conduct, and the importance of good values.

During his interaction with the learners, he addressed concerns involving bullying, school violence, and other incidents that may pose risks to the safety and well-being of learners. He emphasized the importance of being vigilant, responsible, and mindful of one's actions in creating a safe and caring school environment.

Sir Reinante underscored that good values and proper conduct serve as fundamental foundations for achieving a meaningful and fulfilling life. He reminded the learners that respect and love for their parents, teachers, classmates, and others are essential values that guide them toward becoming responsible and successful individuals.

He further encouraged the learners to choose kindness, show genuine care and respect for one another, and become responsible young people who contribute positively to their school and community.

His message served not only as a reminder of the importance of safety and security but also as an affirmation that building a good life begins with good character, responsible
choices, and compassion for others.

Pugo Central School, through its teaching and non-teaching personnel and learners, headed by Dr. Rhea E. Flores, expresses its sincere appreciation to the Local Government Unit of Pugo, under the leadership of Hon. Mayor Geralyn Garcia Bulao-Caoili, for its prompt and responsive intervention in the aftermath of the July earthquake that caused significant damage to the ceilings of three Grade 6 classrooms.

Following the post-earthquake structural assessment and the recommendations of the Local Government Unit and the Department of Education- La Union Schools Division, the damaged ceiling components were deemed necessary for replacement to ensure that the learning spaces would meet essential safety considerations and provide a secure environment for learners and school personnel.

In response, the LGU Pugo through the Engineering Office, headed by Engr. Sherwin Jay G. Bahatan, undertook the complete replacement of the severely damaged ceiling components.

This timely rehabilitation effort reflects the importance of coordinated action among local government, education authorities, and the school community in safeguarding educational facilities, particularly in the aftermath of natural hazards.

Pugo Central School recognizes this undertaking not merely as a repair initiative, but as a concrete manifestation of shared responsibility for learner safety, educational continuity, and resilient school infrastructure.
The school community extends its gratitude to the LGU Pugo, the Office of the Municipal Mayor, the LGU Engineering Office, DepEd La Union, and all individuals whose efforts contributed to the restoration of these classrooms.

A safe learning environment is fundamental to meaningful education. Together, we continue to build a safer, stronger, and more resilient Pugo Central School.

In line with the whole-of-society commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the 2016 South China Sea Arbitral Award, Pugo Central School proudly participated in the Simultaneous Flag Raising Ceremony on July 6, 2026.

The ceremony was spearheaded by Dr. Rhea E. Flores, with the active participation of the PCS Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, together with the school community. This meaningful observance underscored the importance of patriotism, respect for the rule of law, responsible citizenship, and our shared responsibility to uphold the nation's sovereignty and maritime rights.
