Office for Legislative Affairs, AFP

As an institution, the AFP must seize every opportunity to communicate its message to both Houses of Congress. The AFP can get the support it requires for its purpose by proactively informing and educating Congress on its legislative requirements. In this pursuit, the AFP established the Office for Parliamentary Affairs (OPA) on 01 March 1982. The OPA was created to liaise with Batasang Pambansa a

nd push and lobby for the approval of AFP priority and related bills. In 1987, after the EDSA Revolution, it was renamed the Liaison Office for Legislative Affairs (LOLA), then in 2004 was renamed Office for Legislative Affairs, AFP (OLA, AFP) its current name. Through the years, its staff memorandum was revised to address the challenges the Office faces in pursuing AFP legislative initiatives in both Houses of Congress and be responsive to the needs of the AFP in its legislative affairs. One of the main thrusts of the Office was to enhance the establishment of linkages and coordination with the legislators and their legislative staff to support and sponsor legislative measures which are beneficial to the AFP and its personnel. To date, under the leadership of BGEN ACMAD U OMAR JR PAF, the Office is proactive in instituting measures in advocating the enactment of the AFP Priority Legislative Measures and other legislative measures of equal importance that will support the mission accomplishment of the AFP.
