Ang fire pump ay may churn or shutoff pressure, o pressure produced during a no-flow condition. Ibig sabihin, may limit ang pressure na kayang i-produce ng pump based on its design and operating condition.โฃ

Dahil dito, hindi automatic na kailangan lagyan ng Main Pressure Relief Valve ang bawat fire pump system.โฃ

Ayon sa NFPA 20, ginagamit lang ang Main Pressure Relief Valve sa specific applications, gaya ng certain engine-driven or variable-speed fire pumps kapag posibleng lumampas ang pressure sa rating ng system components.โฃ

May mga warehouse na sobrang taas ng kisame, pero pagtingala mo, spot type smoke detector pa rin ang gamit.

Pero sa high ceiling, hindi na suitable ang spot type smoke detector.

Ayon sa Philippine Electronics Code, kapag ang ceiling height ay more than 6 meters, beam-type smoke detector na ang dapat gamitin.

Sa high-ceiling spaces, mas practical ang beam detector. Designed ito para sa malalawak na open areas at mas mahabang detection distance kaysa spot type detectors. Mas kaunti rin ang devices na kailangan dahil mas malayo ang spacing. For example, a Bosch beam detector can reach up to 100 meters between the detector and reflector, with up to 15 meters spacing between detectors.

Mas manageable din ang preventive maintenance dahil karaniwan ay nasa gilid ang device. Hindi kailangan mag-set up ng maraming matataas na scaffolding para lang ma-access ang bawat detector sa ceiling.

Kaya sa high-ceiling warehouses at manufacturing plants, hindi spot type ang tamang detector. Beam detector ang dapat gamitin.

PWEDE BANG MAGKABIT NG FOOT VALVE SA SUNCTION NG FIRE PUMP?

Marami pa ring gumagawa nito, lalo na kapag underground ang water tank at ang gamit ay horizontal split case o end suction pump.

Pero common does not mean compliant, hindi ito ang tamang solution.

Madalas nilalagyan ng foot valve sa suction side para ma-maintain ang priming. Ibig sabihin, laging puno ng tubig ang suction pipe para makahigop agad ang pump kapag kailangan na itong umandar.

Ang foot valve ay pwedeng magdulot ng problema sa fire pump system.

Una, pwede ka pa ring mawalan ng priming. Kahit check valve type ang foot valve, common fault pa rin nito ang may konting backflow. Kapag nangyari ito, pwedeng mawalan ng tubig ang suction side.

Pangalawa, nagdadagdag ito ng friction loss sa suction side. Kapag naapektuhan ang suction pressure at naging negative, pwede itong humantong sa cavitation ng impeller, na nakakasira sa pump.

Kaya imbes na pilitin ang split case o end suction pump na gumana gamit ang foot valve, ang tamang approach ay gamitin ang vertical turbine pump kapag underground ang water source.

Ayon sa NFPA 20, ito ang tamang pump arrangement para sa ganitong setup. Ang paggamit ng ibang pump type para dito ay hindi allowed.

In short, hindi dapat basta nilalagyan ng foot valve ang suction side. Kapag mali ang application nito, naaapektuhan ang performance at reliability ng fire pump.
