[Alumna of the Day]

Today marks the birth anniversary of National Scientist Clara Y. Lim-Sylianco. She finished her Master of Science in Chemistry in 1954. As an educator, she has published multiple textbooks about organic chemistry.

She was declared National Scientist (Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry) in 1994.

Today marks the birth anniversary of National Scientist Bienvenido O. Juliano. He graduated magna cm laude as Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in UP Los Baños. He was known in his field of organic chemistry for his outstanding contributions in rice quality research.

He was declared National Scientist (Biochemistry) in 2000.

Today marks the birth anniversary of National Artist and renowned architect Leandro V. Locsin. He was granted an honorary degree as Doctor of Humanities in 1992.

He was conferred as National Artist (Architecture) in 1990.

Today marks the birth anniversary of National Scientist Alfredo C. Santos. He took his degrees in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacy in UP Manila, where he also served later as Dean of College of Pharmacy.

He was declared National Scientist (Physical Chemistry) in 1978.

Today marks the birth anniversary of National Scientist and Professor Emeritus Alfredo V. Lagmay. He graduated cm laude in his Bachelor degree in Philosophy in 1947, and later on also completed his MA Philosophy degree later in 1951.

He was declared National Scientist (Experimental Psychology) in 1988. He is also the father of UP Resilience Institute Executive Director Alfredo Mahar Lagmay.

UP alumna Dr. Beverly Lorraine C. Ho took oath as Acting President and CEO of PhilHealth on 11 August 2026. She was also a recipient of both the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) and The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) in 2022. Her impressive merits and experience in the medical field and public service are truly tatak UP!
