The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), through the AFP Gender and Development Office (AFPGADO), participated in the Virtual Launch of the UN Women and Canada Military Training and Cooperation Program (MTCP) Regional Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Project on 04 June 2026.

The project, implemented by UN Women in partnership with Canada's Department of National Defence through the MTCP, aims to strengthen the integration of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda within defense and security institutions across the region. Through the BRIDGES 4 PEACE Project: Securing Peace, Advancing Equality, the initiative seeks to enhance institutional responsiveness to evolving security challenges while promoting inclusive leadership and gender-responsive security governance.

Representing the AFP, CAPT VENUS G GUALDAQUEVER PN (GSC), Chief of AFPGADO and one of the five invited national guest speakers, delivered remarks reaffirming the AFP's commitment to advancing the WPS Agenda and strengthening regional cooperation in building inclusive, responsive, and sustainable security institutions.

The virtual launch gathered representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Timor-Leste, Viet Nam, and the Philippines, providing a valuable platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and collective action in advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda across Southeast Asia.

AFP Strengthens Commitment to Transformation and Excellence at Flag-raising ceremony

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) began the month of June with a reaffirmation of its commitment to excellence and institutional transformation during the flag-raising ceremony held today, here. The ceremony was presided over by AFP Vice Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Rommel P Roldan, who also led the awarding of recognitions under the AFP Transformation Roadmap Institutionalization Pathway (AFPTRIP).

The AFP Gender and Development (GAD) Office received the Copper Anahaw Leaf Appurtenance for AFPTRIP Initiation Status in recognition of its successful formulation of strategies and establishment of the tools, mechanisms, systems, and processes necessary to support the AFP's transformation initiatives.

As the AFP begins the month of June, the ceremony reflect its continuing efforts to strengthen governance, foster innovation, and uphold its mandate of serving the Filipino people with professionalism, integrity and organizational excellence.

IN PHOTOS | The Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) successfully concluded the conduct of the Gender and Development (GAD) Audit and the administration of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Participatory Gender Audit (PGA) Survey at Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City, from May 27 to 29.
The activity was spearheaded by Capt. Venus G. Gualdaquever PN, Chief of the AFP Gender and Development Office (AFPGADO), together with Col. Jorry L. Baclor PA, EastMinCom Chief of Unified Command Staff; Col. Rosa Ma. Cristina Rosete-Manuel PA, Vice Chairperson of the EastMinCom Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS); and other GFPS members.
The audit and survey aimed to assess the Command’s compliance with GAD policies, evaluate the effectiveness of existing gender-responsive programs and initiatives, and identify opportunities to further strengthen gender mainstreaming within the organization.
The three-day activity served as a vital mechanism in measuring the Command’s progress in promoting gender equality, inclusivity, and women’s empowerment in accordance with national policies and AFP directives. It also provided participants a platform to share insights, best practices, and recommendations that will contribute to the continuous enhancement of gender-responsive governance and institutional development.
Capt. Gualdaquever lauded EastMinCom for sustaining its GAD compliance for three consecutive years, underscoring the Command’s unwavering commitment to institutionalizing gender-responsive policies and practices within the organization.
Through initiatives such as the GAD Audit and PGA Survey, EastMinCom continues to strengthen an inclusive, equitable, and empowering work environment that safeguards the rights, welfare, and professional development of all personnel, while reinforcing the AFP’s mission of professionalism, service, and excellence.

This May, the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, AFP, proudly joins the observance of Mental Health Awareness Month by promoting mental wellness, resilience, and psychosocial well-being among military personnel, civilian human resources, and their families.
In the line of duty, our military personnel face various challenges and responsibilities that demand not only physical strength, but also emotional and mental resilience. This observance reminds us that seeking help is a sign of strength, and caring for one’s mental health is essential in maintaining readiness, professionalism, and overall well-being.
Mental health is just as important as physical health. Through awareness, understanding, and compassion, we continue to help break the stigma surrounding mental health concerns and encourage everyone to seek support when needed.
The GAD Office, AFP, remains committed to supporting programs and initiatives that foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every individual feels heard, respected, and valued. Through awareness campaigns, open conversations, and peer support, we aim to strengthen a culture that promotes self-care, emotional wellness, and mutual understanding.

15 May 2026 Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City - CAPT JOELIZA B PERIO, Director of the Coast Guard Gender and Development (CGGAD) Center and her team paid a courtesy visit to CAPT VENUS G GUALDAQUEVER PN (GSC), Chief, GAD Office, AFP.
The meeting served as a venue to strengthen inter-agency partnership and cooperation on gender and development initiatives. Both offices discussed potential areas of collaboration, including the exchange of best practices, conduct of capability-building programs, and strategies to further enhance gender mainstreaming efforts within their respective organizations.
