CRIME TREND DROPS BY 12% UNDER SAFER CITIES INITIATIVE
The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported a continued decline in major crime incidents nationwide following the intensified implementation of the Safer Cities Initiative launched on April 6, 2026, which strengthened focused anti-criminality operations across key urban and high-risk areas.
Based on the latest monitoring period covering April 6 to May 6, 2026, total focus crime incidents decreased from 3,047 to 2,684, or 363 fewer cases, reflecting a 12% overall reduction in crime.
Major focus crimes posted notable declines during the monitoring period. R**e cases dropped from 519 to 387 (25.4%), while physical injury cases decreased from 489 to 370 (24.3%). Homicide declined from 99 to 85 (14.1%), and theft cases went down from 1,066 to 1,014 (5%). Meanwhile, murder and robbery cases both registered a 7.4% reduction, from 339 to 314 and 363 to 336 cases, respectively.
Meanwhile, carnapping incidents remained generally manageable during the monitoring period.
The PNP said the results reflect the continuing implementation of focused crime prevention measures and enhanced police deployment strategies in urban centers and communities under the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly through Enhanced Managing Police Operations.
The organization also reported sustained high performance in Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE) and improved Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) involving the eight focus crimes. The latest monitoring period recorded an 87.15% CCE, while CSE improved to 68.19% from 64.92% in the previous monitoring period, reflecting continuing efforts to strengthen investigations, evidence gathering, case build-up, and coordination with prosecutors and witnesses.
According to the PNP, the sustained high clearance and improving solution efficiency rates demonstrate the effectiveness of intensified police operations and evidence-driven investigations.
Chief PNP, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., welcomed the development while emphasizing the need for sustained police presence and community cooperation.
“Ang pagbaba ng focus crimes ay resulta ng tuloy-tuloy na trabaho ng ating mga pulis sa buong bansa, kasama ang suporta ng mga komunidad at local government units. Hindi tayo titigil hangga’t hindi mas lalo pang nararamdaman ng mamamayan ang seguridad sa kanilang mga lugar,” PGen Nartatez said.
He added that the PNP remains focused on improving investigations and immediate police response to incidents.
“We continue to strengthen our operational readiness and investigative capabilities. As your PNP, we will continue to improve our operations and ensure that our people feel safe in their homes, workplaces, and communities. Our goal is simple — a police organization that the public can trust and rely on every day,” he added.
The PNP assured the public that intensified anti-criminality operations and community engagement efforts will continue nationwide as part of the organization’s commitment to Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
