The HANDA Pilipinas Caravan 2.0 continues, this time at the City of Malabon University from May 25 to 26, where researchers from the DOST - Philippine Nuclear Research Institute highlighted the latest atomic and radiation applications in ensuring the preparedness and resilience of the National Capital Region (NCR) in facing the challenges of natural hazards.
The caravan featured PNRI exhibits on nuclear and radiological emergency preparedness and response, and isotope techniques for detection of red tide and other harmful algal blooms. These were visited by Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and members of the local disaster risk reduction and management staff, students and the general public.
PNRI experts also presented on the basics of atomic structure and radioactivity, and more importantly, how to protect oneself from excessive radiation exposure.
The HANDA Pilipinas Caravan 2.0 is organized by the DOST-NCR as it takes on a deeper commitment towards science-based disaster preparedness across Metro Manila, designed to equip local government units and community leaders with practical knowledge and technologies, while also fostering a culture of preparedness.
