[UPDATED: 5.27.2023] Motorcycles are a popular mode of transportation worldwide, but road safety remains a significant concern. Motorcycle-related incidents often lead to severe injuries and fatalities, highlighting the need for improved safety measures. In the Philippines, motorcycles are involved in a high number of road crashes, with almost half of the fatal crashes in Metro Manila involving motorcycles.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has taken steps to address this issue such as implementing exclusive motorcycle lanes and proposing an Anti Lane-Splitting law. However, with the increasing number of motorcycle users, more efforts are necessary.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also contributed to the rise in motorcycle usage, resulting in more inexperienced riders on the road. Education and advocacy for motorcycle safety are crucial, considering that 26% of newly registered motorcycles in 2022 were owned by inexperienced riders. It is imperative to prioritize road safety through comprehensive approaches and collaboration among stakeholders. With the ever-increasing motorcycle ownership and use in the Philippines, how can safety for riders and other road users be improved? This is the question that this Webinar seeks to address.

[TRAINING ALERT] Training on Emission Inventory for Smaller Cities

The U.P. National Center for Transportation Studies (U.P. NCTS) in cooperation with Clean Air Asia will be conducting its 5th offering of Emission Inventory for Smaller Cities through online delivery using Zoom. This Course consisting of eight (8)modules is scheduled to run for ten (10) days (4 hours per day) from November 21, 2022, to December 6, 2022.

The objectives of the Course are to make the participants: (1) identify the emission sources (point, area, and mobile sources) in their cities; (2) develop an understanding of how the computation of emission loading from different sources is conducted; and (3) design a work plan for the establishment of emission inventories in their city.

The Course is open to all qualified personnel from the government and private sectors involved in transportation and related functions. The number of slots is fifty (50) and as such, an early response is suggested. Prospective applicants are expected to make arrangements for procuring appropriate per diem while undergoing the training.

The participation fee for this Course is Nine Thousand Five Hundred Twenty Pesos Only (PhP9,520.00 inclusive of 12% VAT) per person.
