A total of 70 individuals, civic organizations, government agencies and private companies donated P446,000 worth of cash and in-kind contributions in support of Brigada Eskwela 2026 during the campaign’s kickoff in Calapan City, June 1.
The donations, received before and during the nationwide launch of Brigada Eskwela, benefited Vicente and Astronica G***r Samala National High School in Barangay Baruyan, the host school for this year’s citywide opening program.
The ceremonial acceptance of contributions was among the highlights of the event, with stakeholders turning over school supplies, educational materials, furniture, equipment, construction materials and commitments for future assistance to help improve school facilities and address learners’ needs.
Among the major donors, the Rotary Club of Calapan provided construction materials and various school furniture and equipment valued at P70,000, while the Rotary Club of West Naujan donated a brand-new television unit.
City Savings Bank and China Bank contributed paint and construction materials, while Calapan Water supported the school through the installation of a free water station. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) also turned over instructional and cleaning materials.
Several private individuals donated bags, school supplies and uniforms for students. Meanwhile, Pacific Intercontinental College pledged P40,000 for its “Adopt-a-Child” program.
Education officials said the outpouring of support signaled the spirit of “bayanihan” and demonstrated how partnerships among schools, communities and stakeholders help create a more conducive learning environment for learners.
The event gathered teachers, parents, volunteers, government officials and community partners as part of preparations for the opening of School Year 2026–2027 in the newly established secondary school.
Another highlight of the program was the groundbreaking ceremony for future infrastructure projects within the school campus.
Simultaneous Brigada Eskwela activities also commenced in public elementary and secondary schools across Calapan City and will continue until June 5.
This year’s Brigada Eskwela activities likewise extended to the Alternative Learning System (ALS), whose personnel and volunteers conducted clean-up and maintenance activities in Community Learning Centers (CLCs) throughout the city.
Meanwhile, Schools Division Superintendent Susana M. Bautista said the annual campaign seeks to strengthen community involvement in education while ensuring that schools remain safe, welcoming and effective learning environments for learners.
“The SDO Calapan City continues to encourage individuals, organizations and institutions to take part in Brigada Eskwela. The program remains a powerful manifestation of unity and shared responsibility, proving that when communities work together, schools and learners benefit the most,” Bautista said. | via Ace Sapit
