As part of the Philippine Government's efforts to deepen cooperation with Japan, National Security Adviser Eduardo SL Oban Jr. joined President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the courtesy call of His Excellency Motegi Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, at Malacaรฑan Palace, 22 July 2026.

This meeting reaffirmed the Philippines' and Japan's commitment to closer cooperation and sustained engagement on areas of mutual interest. Strengthening this strategic partnership supports shared efforts to promote regional peace and stability while creating greater opportunities for security, economic resilience, and prosperity that ultimately benefit the Filipino people.

The National Security Council supported the Armed Forces of the Philippines Office of the Surgeon General (OTSG), headed by BGEN Fatima Claire S. Navarro MC, The Surgeon General, in its capability-building efforts by providing briefings on the National Security Policy (NSP) 2023โ€“2028, and the National Security Strategy (NSS) 2024 during a cascading session held on 17 July 2026 at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

This activity forms part of the OTSG's continuing efforts to strengthen health security preparedness through the National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS). Representing the NSC, National Security Specialist IV Dr. Rodelene Tan discussed the organization and mandate of the NSC, while National Security Specialist V Gayedelle Florendo presented the NSP and NSS, emphasizing their role as the policy foundations of the NAPHS. Both officers also served as resource persons in the Department of Health's series of NAPHS workshops.

In recognition of the NSC's support to the activity, the OTSG presented the Council with a Certificate of Appreciation. This engagement reflects the NSC's continuing commitment to advancing a whole-of-government approach to national security by strengthening policy coherence and institutional preparedness across government agencies.

The National Security Council joins the weeklong observance of ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐’๐ฉ๐š๐œ๐ž ๐–๐ž๐ž๐ค, led by the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA). This year's celebration honors the contributions of Filipinos, here and abroad, who champion technological innovation, sound policies, and cooperation for the peaceful, responsible, and sustainable use of outer space.

With the theme "Navigating Together," inspired by ASEAN 2026's "Navigating Our Future, Together," PhilSA looks ahead by preparing to launch the Multispectral Unit for Land Assessment (MULA) satellite. This innovation aims to further strengthen the use of space data to address pressing national concerns - disaster resilience, food security, and national security - ensuring that space science contributes directly to a safer and more sustainable future for the Filipino people.
