𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰? 🇵🇭

The celebration of National Reservist Week is rooted in Proclamation No. 1892 (1979), which declared September 1 of every year as "Araw ng Laang-Kawal Pilipino" (Reservist Day) to recognize the invaluable role of military reservists in nation-building.

Later, Proclamation No. 627 (1995) expanded the observance by declaring the period from September 3 to 10 as "Linggo ng Laang-Kawal Pilipino" (National Reservist Week) to promote greater public awareness and appreciation of the AFP Reserve Force and its vital contribution to national defense, disaster response, and community service.

This coming September, let us celebrate our AFP Reservists—ordinary citizens with an extraordinary commitment to serve the nation.

As we commemorate the 47th National Reservist Week, we honor the dedication, patriotism, and readiness of every reservist who stands prepared to answer the call of duty in times of peace, crisis, and national emergencies.

On 15 July 2026, MGEN GEROLD N GAGAN PAF, Deputy Chief of Staff for Reserve Force Development, J9, visited the Reserve Command, Philippine Air Force.

The activity served as an opportunity to engage with the leadership and personnel of ResCom, PAF, gain firsthand insights into its programs and initiatives, and discuss collaborative efforts toward strengthening Reserve Force Development. It likewise reaffirmed OJ9’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships with the Major Reserve Commands in support of a more capable, responsive, and mission-ready AFP Reserve Force.

As OJ9 continues to champion the development of the AFP Reserve Force, such engagements remain instrumental in promoting collaboration, enhancing organizational effectiveness, and ensuring that the Reserve Force remains a reliable partner in national defense and nation-building.

The latest act of violence and harassment committed by the China Coast Guard against Philippine Navy personnel stationed at the BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal adds to a clear pattern of provocative and hostile behavior, and further contributes to the People’s Republic of China’s deficit of trust and credibility.

Against the backdrop of the PRC’s circumvention of international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and disregard of the final and binding 2016 Arbitral Tribunal Ruling on the South China Sea, their actions further justify the Department’s position of disengagement—we simply cannot trust this belligerent neighbor.

The professionalism and resolve shown by our military personnel compel us to strengthen our resolve, build up our deterrence, shore up our alliances, and bolster our national commitment to safeguard what is rightfully ours.

As we continue to monitor and prepare measures to meet this aggression, the Department of National Defense salutes the defenders of BRP Sierra Madre and our western frontier. We will not back down.
