𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: Mag-andam kita sa tanang katalagman! 🌏

GeoRiskPH has successfully concluded the GeoRiskPH for Resilience Regional Training Workshop 2026 – Batch 3, held at MetroCentre Hotel, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The two-day regional training gathered 94 participants from 54 Local Government Units (LGUs) across Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor, together with representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Local Resource Institutes (LRIs) from Negros Oriental State University and Silliman University.

The training was further strengthened through the invaluable support of local trainers from DOST Central Visayas and PSTO Lanao del Norte, who shared their expertise and provided technical guidance throughout the activity.

As the workshop concluded, participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge and tools they gained to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience in their respective communities.

𝐀𝐓𝐌: From grassroots to actions: GeoRiskPH drives the Province of Iloilo to being Champions of Disaster Preparedness

Another round of GeoRiskPH for Resilience Workshop has reached the shores of the Iloilo Province, bringing together 40 Local Government Units (LGUs) and 9 Provincial Government Offices to utilize local geospatial information and enhance their skills on hazard assessment through the use of GeoRiskPH applications.

The welcoming remarks, given by Dr. Alfonso R. Baldonado III, the Chief of Administrative and Training Division of PDRRMO Iloilo, emphasized how the workshop should inspire the participants not only to become users of technology, but also to become champions of science. Engr. Sheila L. Oberio, the Provincial S&T Director of DOST Iloilo, highlighted the role of DOST to leverage S&T data and innovation to assess risk and provide tools to the LGUs. A message of support was also delivered by Pcol. Cornello R. Salinas, (Ret), MPA/PESE, PGDH, the head of PDRRMO Iloilo. He stated the disaster risk reduction offices as the frontliners and should be prepared when disaster comes, and stressed how GeoRiskPH helps their province better understand and translate it into knowledge.

The workshop will focus on lectures and activities using the GeoRiskPH applications such as GeoMapperPH, HazardHunterPH, and GeoAnalyticsPH, further enhancing disaster risk resilience.

Bridging the Gap: 2026 GeoRiskPH Training Series Empowers Stakeholders Nationwide

In a proactive effort to strengthen the nation’s resilience against natural hazards, DOST-PHIVOLCS spearheaded a series of comprehensive capacity-building activities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao during the first quarter of 2026.

This nationwide initiative brought together a diverse range of stakeholders—from corporate risk officers and regional planners to local government units—to master the GeoRiskPH applications. By integrating hazard assessment tools with planning, the training series focused on transforming scientific data into actionable climate and disaster risk management strategies.
In a significant push for corporate disaster resilience, DOST-PHIVOLCS conducted two waves of GeoRiskPH training for SM Investments and its subsidiaries at the MOA Complex, Pasay City. Held on January 14-15 and March 10 respectively, the sessions gathered a total of 98 participants from various portfolios to enhance climate action planning through hazard assessment tools.

In another event, 51 planners from different regional and provincial offices of the Department of Agriculture Provincial Rural Development Project (DA PRDP) - MIMAROPA attended the workshop in North EDSA, Quezon City. Held on February 10-12, the agriculture sector aims to modernize their disaster response, ensuring risk-informed decision-making for one of the country's most hazard-vulnerable sectors.

On March 3-4, the GeoRiskPH initiative extended its reach to the Visayas, conducting a capacity-building program at the Northern Samar Provincial Capitol Grounds in Catarman. Graced by key officials Assistant Regional Director Dr. Rufino E. Mengote and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Secretary Bernard Balanquit, the two-day training was participated by 64 attendees which included representatives from various planning offices. An accompanying one day training on the Training of Trainers (TOT) produced 17 certified local trainers, ensuring sustainability of the disaster resilience activity efforts.

The Mindanao leg kicked off in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, on January 21-22. Hosted at the Cathedral Falls Waterworld Function Hall, the training focused on grassroots digital transformation for municipal offices, including Engineering, Planning, and Agriculture. Graced by Sangguniang Bayan Member Hon. Benjie Vergara, the workshop concluded with 25 participants completing the course and formulating 6 action plan documents.

GeoRiskPH for Resilience Regional Training Workshop 2026 – Batch 3

Participants from the Central Visayas provinces of Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor, together with representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Offices of Bohol and Negros Island, as well as Learning Resource Institutions (LRIs) from Silliman University and Negros Oriental State University, are gathered in Tagbilaran City, Bohol for Day 2 of the GeoRiskPH for Resilience Regional Training Workshop.

The training, implemented in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the Disaster Risk Reduction Enhancement at the Local Level – Technical Assistance Project (DRREALL-TA), equips partner institutions and local governments with the knowledge and skills needed for disaster resilience and risk-informed planning.

One LGU at a time, we continue to work together to build communities that are stronger, safer, and more risk-ready.

𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: GeoRiskPH for Resilience Regional Training Workshop 2026 – Batch 2

A total of 126 participants from 65 Local Government Units (LGUs) attended the training conducted in Iloilo City, with representatives from various LGUs across Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental. The activity was also joined by representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). The training was further supported by local trainers from DOST Region VI, DOST Iloilo, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Iloilo, who assisted in facilitating the sessions and providing technical guidance to participants throughout the activity.

The closing program was led by Ms. Joan C. Salcedo, Supervising Science Research Specialist from DOST-PHIVOLCS, who emphasized that as participants return to their respective offices, the knowledge and tools gained from the training will empower not only themselves as practitioners, but also enable them to better serve their communities in building safer and more resilient communities. She also congratulated the participants for successfully completing the training.

As part of the training outputs, participants presented their Re-entry Action Plans, highlighting how they intend to integrate the GeoRiskPH applications into their respective workflows and local initiatives. They also shared their short-term and long-term goals in applying the knowledge and skills gained from the training to strengthen disaster preparedness and risk reduction efforts in their communities.
