Here’s how we made a Storm Surge Hazard Map GIS from NOAH’s dataset in the COARE Data Catalog! 🔍
1. Register for an account at https://coaredata.asti.dost.gov.ph/signup and log in.
2. Read and agree to the end-user license agreement to download your preferred dataset.
3. If your dataset does not include an administrative boundaries file, you can get one from other geospatial data providers, such as OpenStreetMap.
4. Load the files into a Jupyter notebook.
5. Integrate the dataset into your administrative boundaries file.
6. Customize and visualize your GIS map.
7. Analyze for actionable insights based on the data and enjoy! 🎉
GIS maps such as this are only one of the many possible applications of the datasets available in COARE’s Data Catalog. We encourage everyone to make use of these FREE and publicly available datasets to create something useful. 💡🌏
𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙚: This is only one way to create a GIS map. You can use other geospatial analysis tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, etc., or work with Python libraries like GeoPandas.
