The UP National Engineering Center (UPNEC), the UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation (UPERDF) and the Maynilad Water Services, Inc. signed a Research Partnership and Grant Agreement for the conduct of the project entitled "Assessing the Impact of Anthropogenic and Natural Influences on Water Quality and Plume Dynamics in Manila Bay: An Investigative Study on the Tondo Diffuser" during the Kick-Off Ceremony held last May 19, 2026 at the Maynilad Boardroom.

Present during the event were (from left): UPNEC Deputy Executive Director Czar Jakiri S. Sarmiento; UPERDF President Angelito D. Bermudo; UPNEC Executive Director and UP College of Engineering Dean Maria Antonia N. Tanchuling; Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Christopher Jaime Lichauco; UPERDF Executive Director Alfonso A. Aliga, Jr.; and Maynilad Wastewater Management Head Zmel Grabillo.

The research study aims to bridge industry and academic research to enhance the understanding of how wastewater discharge interacts with Manila Bay’s evolving environmental conditions. The findings will contribute to policy recommendations, operational improvements, and future innovations in wastewater treatment and discharge management.

The Philippine Association of Engineering Schools (PAES) invites all engineering faculty members, administrators, and academic leaders to join FREE Webinar No. 3 entitled “AI in Engineering Education: Issues, Risks, and Directions.”

This webinar will discuss the emerging role of artificial intelligence in engineering education, with emphasis on curriculum and learning, assessment and academic integrity, faculty roles and governance, and responsible AI adoption toward future-ready engineering programs.

The session will be held online via Zoom Meetings on May 29, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with Dr. Marloun P. Sejera, Chief AI Integration Officer of Mapúa University, as resource speaker.

DOST in the News: The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST PCIEERD)—and the University of the Philippines Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry (UP TCAGP), has officially launched a new digital system called SMART METRO in Iloilo City to improve governance and public services in the country.
