In a remarkable effort to promote environmental sustainability, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Quezon and the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Baresbes, with the participation of 59 youths, successfully planted 350 bamboo propagules in a simultaneous bamboo planting activity held on September 18, 2024.
The activity was held in celebration of World Bamboo Day, highlighting the importance of bamboo to both industry and nature. The theme โBuhay-Kawayan: Haligi ng Industriya't Kalikasan, Pag-asa sa Kinabukasanโ emphasized the critical role of bamboo in fostering industrial growth and environmental conservation. Bamboo, often called the "grass of hope, " is vital in mitigating climate change and supporting sustainable industries.
The event was graced by key individuals from LGU Quezon, including Ms. Julie D. Sandaga, Maryel A. Soriano, Evelyn M. Pacis, Bryan C. Paner, and Jayve D. Cabacungan from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), and Ms. Kristine Dian Calimag from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Nueva Vizcaya's Negosyo Center. Their presence emphasized the local governmentโs support for sustainability efforts that align with both economic development and environmental protection.
The SK of Baresbes took the opportunity to launch their Adopt-a-River Program, an initiative aimed at enhancing local environmental conservation efforts, aligning with the celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month. This program encouraged the active participation of the youth in rehabilitating and protecting local water systems, ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for the community.
