PNP DEPLOYS 77,000 POLICE OFFICERS FOR SUMMER HOLIDAY SEASON
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced the deployment plan for the upcoming Holy Week and Ramadhan aiming to ensure the safety and security of the public during this religious observance.
PNP Chief General Rodolfo S Azurin Jr. stated that the police force will be deploying 77, 000 police officers to ensure the safety and security of the public during these simultaneous Christian and Muslim religious celebrations.
The religious observance of Holy Week will be ushered by the celebration of Palm Sunday on April 2, culminating on Easter Sunday on April 9. The Muslim Holy Month of Ramadhan meanwhile started on March 23, and will culminate with the celebration of Eid’l Fitr in the 3rd week of April.
The annual summer Holiday period extends thru the traditional Fiesta and Flores de Mayo season in May.
According to the data provided by the PNP-Directorate for Operations, 38,387 police officers will be deployed for enhanced police presence through mobile and foot/beat patrol, while an additional 39,504 police officers will be deployed for specific areas of convergence such as major thoroughfares, transportation hubs, terminals, commercial areas, and places of worship.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will have the highest number of deployments, with a total of 9,585 police officers.
Other regions with increased deployment include PRO 1 with 5,304 officers, PRO 4A with 6,496 officers, and PRO 5 with 5,594 officers. Meanwhile, the Aviation Security Group (AVSEGRP) will deploy 1,606 officers, while the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and Maritime Group (MG) will deploy 1,874 and 297 officers, respectively.
General Azurin Jr. emphasized that the PNP's deployment plan aims to ensure the safety of the public during religious observance and urged the public to cooperate with the authorities.
"The deployment of our police officers is aimed to provide maximum security coverage to the public who will take part in the various religious activities," said General Azurin Jr. "As the country continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, we encourage everyone to observe safety protocols and cooperate with our law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful and safe Holy Week for all."
The PNP also highlighted the importance of respecting and protecting the human rights of all individuals, even during the deployment of police officers. "The PNP is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the rights of all individuals, regardless of their religion or background, are protected and respected," General Azurin Jr. said.
The PNP's deployment plan for Holy Week and Ramadhan aims to ensure that the public can observe their religious traditions and practices peacefully and safely. The PNP urges everyone to cooperate with the authorities and to report immediately any suspicious activities or persons in their area.
